New Hampshire became a state on June 21, 1788. Due to the vast number of quarries and granite formations throughout the state it’s known as “The Granite State.” It’s the fifth smallest state in the country by area but there’s a lot to love about New Hampshire, here’s 9 of our favs.

• Mt. Washington

  It’s not the highest mountain in the east but it may be the most well-known. It’s one of the most deadly mountains due to it’s unpredictably extreme weather. Plus it sells lots of bumper stickers. Lots.

• The Old Man In the Mountain

  I lived in New Hampshire for a handful of years – not far from The Old Man In the Mountain so I saw him quite frequently. The day his face fell off I definitely shed a tear so I must keep his spirit alive by respectfully putting him on the list.

• The Motto

  “Live Free Or Die.” Originally used in an 1809 toast by Revolutionary War General John Stark, it’s one of/if not THE best known state motto in all the US.

  Yes it was started in Massachusetts in 1967 but it’s headquarters are located in New Hampshire.
