According to Scholaroo, a scholarship finding service, Massachusetts ranks 5th in the country for education in 2023. In fact, 4 New England states made the top 5!

Boston.com reports that Scholaroo’s scoring is based on “three categories: student success, student safety, and school quality.” More good news. Massachusetts’ education system is #1 in student success. That was compiled using 40 considerations; from test scores to dropout rates and college-going rates. In case you were wondering, New Jersey ranked #1 overall with 86 total points. Mass’ total points were just behind at 83.

    Where do we rank nationally for ACT scores? According to Scholaroo, Mass has the 2nd highest ACT scores across the states.

  • New Hampshire

    New Hampshire’s overall score tied with New Jersey’s at 86. But, the 603 is ranked 3rd in student success, 6th in student safety, and 1st in student quality, falling slightly behind New Jersey(4th , 1st and 5th respectively) New Hampshire also came in 4th for its math scores and ranked fifth for having the lowest number of students per teacher.

  • Vermont

    With a total over score of 84, The Green Mountain State ranked 8th in student success, 4th in safty and 5th in quality. High marks for Vermont’s graduation rates – it ranked 2nd in the country.

  • Connecticut

    Connecticut tied Vermont’s overall score of 84, and even ranked 2nd for both student success and student quality. They did fall behind in student safety with a ranking of 25 in the country. Great math scores, however, coming in 3rd, and coming in 2nd for math scores, and money spent per student.

  • Maine and Rhode Island

    The remaining New England States, Maine and Rhode Island, came in 7th overall and 23rd respectively. Maine scored an 80 overall, while RI scored a 73. FYI, Main also had the 3rd highest grad rates and 2nd lowest number of students per teacher.
