Everybody likes to get out and let loose a little. For some people that’s pickleball, for others it’s going out for a really good cup of coffee at their favorite coffee shop, and for others it’s getting your drank on. Which leads us to this head scratcher: what is the booziest county in Massachusetts?
A website that specializes in Drink Culture went state by state and county by county to determine America’s Booziest and Least Boozy Counties. <— check out the national results right there. Here we’ll focus on the Bay State. Ohhhh… and I held off on giving you the name of the website because it’s a funny one: intoxistates.com — that definitely sounds like an authority on this topic. lol
I must also come clean. I feel a bit hypocritical writing this article. I have been a non-drinker for about the past 4 years. Don’t worry, I’m not going to try to woo you to the N/A side. It’s a great place for me and I’m very fortunate and happy to be here but trust me, I had more than my share of booze-induced fun (and drama) for one lifetime. I’m sure every county I’ve lived in in Massachusetts saw a bump up on the “booziest county” list while I was a resident. Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there. Our new best friends at intoxistates.com found the average percentage of “excessive drinkers” per state. Then they broke it down and compared that to the amount of excessive drinkers per county in that state. In Massachusetts 19.22% of people are considered excessive drinkers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers “excessive drinking” to be consuming more than 4 drinks on any day for men or more than 3 drinks for women.
So what is the booziest county in Massachusetts?
Before we go there, let’s look at the booziest and least boozy counties in the entire country. People who live in Gallatin County in Montana are the booziest in America according to the data. 26.8% of residents there are excessive drinkers. On the other hand, residents of Utah County in Utah were named the driest (or least boozy). Only 9.8% of residents there are considered excessive drinkers.
Now on to Massachusetts!
