National Sandwich Day is November 3, and if you’re in the Boston area, you’re in a great place to celebrate.

Of course, I celebrate National Sandwich Day every day. If you were to put a gun to my head and threaten to pull the trigger unless I told you what my favorite food was…well, first of all, please put the gun away. That’s an unbelievably dangerous thing to do, putting a gun to someone’s head. What’s wrong with you? OK, now that we’ve moved past that unpleasantness, I will tell you this: you do not need to threaten me. I will happily shout from the rooftops that my favorite food is indeed the humble sandwich.

I eat a sandwich for lunch every damn day. Well, except for the days where some fine local business is kind enough to drop by with some food. For real, though, I love sandwiches. My latest creation is two slices of tofurkey and a slice of cashew cheese with fake mayo, Dijon mustard, lettuce, and dill pickle slices. Oh, and a sprinkle of celery salt. I’m housing one of those a day for lunch. But if that’s not your style, that’s OK. There’s plenty of other options around Boston.

Boston’s Best For National Sandwich Day

Lawn Love ranked Boston at No. 6 in their 2023’s Best Cities for Sandwich Lovers. Most sandwiches per square mile and a high number of highly-rated restaurants serving sandwiches helped put Boston in the Top 10. As your local sandwich expert, I’ve listed a half-dozen of my favorite sandwiches below, all available in the Boston area. So celebrate National Sandwich Day and grab a sandwich for lunch. And for supper, too.

  • Dominic's, Waltham

When I found out our studios were moving to Waltham and we’d be NEXT DOOR to Dominic’s, I was overjoyed. My girlfriend wised me up to Dom’s a few years back and the Parma Panini is my go-to.

  • Anthony's Italian Specialties, Stoneham

Large Italian with hots. Nobody does it better.

Italian sub on a gluten free rollβ€’We carry @somethingsweetwithoutwheat gluten free sub and bulkie rolls! β€’#repost from @glutenfreedude Thanks for capturing your lunch, we hope you enjoyed πŸ˜‹

  • Pete's Roast Beef, Woburn

Even the North Shore Beefers agree: Pete’s makes one of the best 3-ways around. And that’s what I’m getting every time I go there.

Try our daily roasted beef ( serve in onion roll, seeded roll and plain roll )πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”

  • Billy's Roast Beef, Wakefield

Another roast beef shop? Yes. And their beef is fantastic. But it’s the chicken kabob pita. I’ve been eating it since I was a kid growing up in Greenwood. Grilled chicken, tomato, feta, and shredded lettuce, served in a pita, doused in house Greek dressing.

Half way to the 4th of July weekend. How about a Grilled chicken in syrian or a steak tip sub to power you through to the weekend!

  • Zaftig's Delicatessen, Brookline

Nova lox with tomato, onion, capers, and schmear on a freshly-baked bagel. L’chaim!

  • Banh Mi Ba Le, Dorchester

One of the few things I miss about working in Dorchester is being a stone’s throw away from the best banh mi sandwich in the city.
