There are deals in the dough all over Massachusetts from Dunkin’ to Kane’s

“Salvation Army Doughnuts” started in 1917. Doughnuts were first served by the ladies of the Salvation Army. During World War I, the Salvation “Army Lassies” apparently went to the front lines in Europe to serve home cooked food for our troops. Not only did it provide them with nutrition, but it boosted their morale. History revealed that the donuts were sometimes cooked in the metal heltmuts of our soldiers, in oil.
