It’s definitely not “par for the course.” but one 18 year old Westford woman is making it happen. Move over boys, and make way for Molly! Do you know Molly Smith? She’s the FIRST woman to play the men’s Massachusetts Amateur Golf Championship, in their 115 year history. And this golfer is a rising star, just ask her sisters Morgan and Maddie, who also are golf sensations. They even have their own website and social network as Smith Sisters Golf. That’s a lot of competition in one family!

Molly Smith is breaking barriers, along with her records. The Westford Academy honor student is committed to play in college. Get to know the athlete so you can follow her journey in what is bound to be an outstanding career. Learn of her accomplishments, family and history with the game of golf.

You know how much we love our sports in Massachusetts, so here’s your chance to root for a rising athlete and Mass native! The Massachusetts Amateur Golf Championship teed off Monday (July 10). Molly is playing the same course as the men. The main difference is it has longer holes.  But, she told WBZ CBS News, “It’s not so far different where it’s a huge adjustment. It’s maybe just a club or two on each hole.”

 

  • College

    Molly signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Central Florida- class off 2027. UCF has a Top 30 Division 1 Women’s Golf Team in the BIG12!

  • How Did Molly Qualify?

    According to Golf Week/USA Today, back in May, Molly shot 1-over 73 at Andover Country Club to qualify for the Massachusetts Amateur Championship. The article says, “Smith is believed to be the first woman to ever qualify for the championship in its 115-year history.” 

  • THIS Close To Qualifying for the US Open

    As reported by GolfWeek, Smith made headlines again in May when “she fired a 2-under 70 to miss the cut by a shot at a U.S. Open local qualifier at LeBaron Hills Country Club in Lakeville, Massachusetts.”

  • How long has Molly been playing?

    Smith told WBZ CBS News Boston that she began playing competitive golf at the age of 10, but she said, ““I’ve loved golf from the get-go so I was playing pretty much as soon I could walk.”  Golf is truly a family affair for the Smiths. Not only do Molly sisters play competitively, but both her parents play.  Her dad, Phil is a former PGA pro. He is an 8 time Lowell Cities Tournament champion,
