Florida Dethroned As “Best Place To Retire” For the 1st Time In Years – Is Massachusetts the New #1?

Your short answer to the question posed in the headline of this article? Ummm… no. Not even close.

WalletHub is back at it again, releasing their list of the Best States to Retire in and this year we have a bit of a shocker: Florida is not #1!

Who is the brand new #1?? Oh read on my friends, your future retirement destination awaits later in this here article.

And speaking of surprises, THIS FOOD was named the most iconic food in Massachusetts and it’s not what you expect. I bet you can’t guess it in 3 guesses!

Now onto the retirement states. I’ll tell you where each of our New England states finished up (one made the top 10! Ooooh Ahhhhhh) then on to the top 10 and the brand new #1 state to retire in. So hop on your Rascal Scooter and let’s goooooooooo:

  • New England States: How'd Rhode Island Do?

    Not very good. You came in 40th of the 50 states. Sorry Rhode Island, we still love your guts.

  • New England States: How'd Maine Do?

    Maine was the 29th Best State to Retire in so it’s still in the bottom half nationwide, however in New England Maine is in the top half – #3 of the 6 New England states.

  • New England States: How'd Vermont Do?

    Vermont came in 34th of the 50 US states when it comes to best states to retire in and 3rd worst of the 6 New England States.

  • New England States: How'd Connecticut Do?

    Connecticut came in 35th of the 50 states and second worst of the 6 New England states.

  • New England States: How'd Massachusetts Do?

    We’re #1! We’re #1!! Hold on… looks like my 7 key was stuck and not working. We’re #17! We’re #17!! There we go. Mass finished as the #17 Best State to Retire in. Not too shabby, really. The Bay State was the second best New England state to retire in. One New England sibling cracked the top 10!
