Is a walk around the park an acceptable thing to do for a date? Gary feels like he is spending too much money on dating, so he wants to know if it makes him cheap to take a girl on a date where they spend no money, but just walk around the park instead. I mean, Boston does have a lot of nice parks
Ayla Brown: Good morning, Gary. How are you? I heard that you are single, ready to mingle, and you have a question for me. So what is it? Talk to me.
Gary: Hey. Hey. What’s up? Yes, I am single. Ready to mingle.
Ayla Brown: Okay. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Maybe someone out there listening would be interested.
Gary: Well, I’ve been having some issues for the past six months, I’ve been trying to go on dates, joined a bunch of these dating sites, you know, like Tinder Hinge, Bumble.
Ayla Brown: And have you tried Christian Mingle? FarmersOnly.com?
Gary: No, no, no.
Ayla Brown: I mean, so you haven’t tried everything.
Gary: I’ve tried a lot. I mean, it’s expensive. The memberships.
Ayla Brown: Yeah, I’ve heard. Okay.
Gary: And then I go on dates and I’ve got to drop money. And then, you know, one thing leads to another and it doesn’t work out but I’m still spending a lot of money. Money I could be spending on bills.
Ayla Brown: Can I ask how much? Like what a typical date would look like and how much you would be spending on the date?
Gary: Typically, I’m spending anywhere from $60 to $120.
Ayla Brown: Okay. And how often are you dating? Let’s just say in a week or a month.
Gary: Last month I had six dates.
Ayla Brown: Okay, so hold on. I’m going to six times 120. That’s $720 per month. Times 12 months
Gary: Plus the membership fees.
Ayla Brown: Okay, Well, just on the date alone, not even talking about the membership fee, we’re almost at $9,000 for a year of dating. Okay, so that is expensive. Keep going, then. What’s the problem here, besides all the money you’re dropping?
Gary: I had a question because you see how much money I’m spending. I was just wondering, is it cool to take a girl out for a date on a walk around the park and I don’t have to spend a dime?
Ayla Brown: Good question. Good question. Is that what you’re planning on doing for one date or any dates that you have?
Gary: Any number of dates. Because this is getting a little bit ridiculous how much money I’m spending.
Ayla Brown: Gary, would you at least buy an ice cream? Or just do a walk around Boston Common or something like that?
Gary: I would buy an ice cream. Of course, I’m a gentleman.
Ayla Brown: Okay, well, you would spend $7 per ice cream. So for two, I mean, what is it?
Gary: I want to know, is it okay that I don’t spend anything if I just went for the walk? Is this something girls would be interested in? Do you see what I’m saying?
