Father’s Day at Fenway Park SHOULD be a fun, peaceful event. One where families can attend, watch a great baseball game (in this case it was the Red Sox vs. the Yankees so a nice rivalry was on hand) and spend some time together. In one families’ case, it turned into a viral moment. A moment the Mulligan family will never forget.

It happened on Father’s Day, June 18th, at Fenway Park in Boston. It was a cloudy day with a few showers here and there. But the Red Sox had beaten the Yankees, in fact they swept them in their weekend series. Pat Mulligan was with his children Jack and Charlie and his wife Jamie. Things were going great and even got greater when a fan caught a foul ball and then gave that ball to Charlie who then made the decision to throw the ball back onto the field. This was much to the dismay of his brother Jack. The video of the event went viral and was shared by thousands, including Sports Center.

Dad was seen trying to comfort little Jack until an amazing gesture was brought to them from the Red Sox clubhouse. Apparently, Kenly Jansen, Red Sox pitcher, was looking on and decided to give the family a signed ball and jersey for their troubles. Pat, who was later interviewed for NESN, said “We’re awfully grateful to everybody for being so nice.” All in all it ended up being a great day as the Red Sox beat the Yankees in that game 6-2.

In the end, it was a Father’s Day the Mulligan family would never forget. The video went viral and the sports world has been reacting.
