We are celebrating Drive-In Movie Day! Find a screen near you, below.
The first drive-in movie theater opened on this day (June 6) in New Jersey, back in 1932! Fun fact, Richard Hollingshead, Jr created the drive-in for his mom in his backyard, with a projector he placed on his car. He actually created it with seniors in mind. He knew it was harder for them to sit comfortably in traditional theaters. The goal was to give the entire family a night out, in the open air.
Since then, millions have been enjoying the drive-in for 90 years! Oh sure, most of us watch at home or on our computers or even phones, but it’s a special treat to hit the drive-in in the summertime. And theaters saw a resurgence during the early days of the pandemic.
What was the last movie you saw at a drive-in?
