As reported by multiple news outlets–including NBC Boston and WCVB5, who we’ve used as sources for this piece–the storms that marched across the Commonwealth on Monday brought a deluge of hard, relentless rain to Leominster, MA and its surrounding communities. The resulting flooding has been described as “catastrophic” by Governor Maura Healey. And the images back that up.

“Early Tuesday morning, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency issued an evacuation alert for people in low-lying areas of the Fall Brook tributary to Fall Brook, along Central Street, Fall Brook and the North Nashua River in Leominster, citing a potential issue with the Barrett Park Pond Dam. Shelter is available at Skyview Middle School, MEMA said.”
As expected, schools in Leominster are closed today as the city deals with the aftermath of the flash flooding. Parts of Route 2 in and around Leominster were closed yesterday and cars were stranded in the flooding, which opened up sinkholes not just along Route 2 and the surrounding roadways, but all across that area of Massachusetts. WCVB5 shared footage of the damage just hours ago.
