For as long as I have been spotlighting local artists, I continue to be awed by some. And this is one. Alex Anthony’s voice is velvet. Plushy, soft, luxurious tones dance through notes. The songwriting is his road map to desired destinations and we are along for the ride. Meet my Local Catch of the Week, Alex Anthony from Newburyport.

Alex has been traveling the country, and the world, performing in all kinds of venues and for all kinds of audiences. The thing about his music, is it’s genre-friendly. If you like country music, you will likely enjoy his songs. If you are into blues, or rock or even pop, you will most likely find Alex Anthony music appealing. And you cannot deny his artistry.

The Newburyport singer/songwriter has released a new single and it’s a total vibe. “Sunrise” is full of horns, and beats and melodic journeys that’ll have you moving and conjuring up comparisons. I have compared Alex to Jack Johnson, before, and I am again. But add in Vance Joy, or Jason Mraz too. They are merely comparisons and of course, Alex  is his own artist with is own unique sound. His signature rasp is the velvet shine that draws us in to listen closer. Here, you can listen closer, and get closer to my Local Catch of the Week, Alex Anthony.
