Kruser’s Local Catch

My Local Catch of the Week, Heather Lynn from Stoughton, Massachusetts is back with a new single. The early education teacher is leaning into her love of more traditional country with this new song. “Love of Your Life” is a cleverly written gem that has you initially thinking it’s a cheating song. But it’s not. You’ll have to hear it for yourself, below.

Heather’s been writing since she was in middle school. She has been passionate about music for as long as she can remember. All kinds of music. The multi-instrumentalist lives and breathes music, on and off the stage. Her passion for her craft is impressive. All her voice lessons, musical instrument instruction, theater, and choir is evident in each song. She gives each note, and every lyric her all.

Heather Lynn’s love of music and her drive have taken her many places, including Nashville to record and perform. Her fellow Stoughtonite, Grammy Award winner songwriter, Lori McKenna has been a big influence in her life. Heather’s songs are well crafted. Her vocals are strong and express a vulnerability and honesty. It sure seems like music is the love of her life. She takes it seriously and has some serious fun along the way. Catch much more about this talented singer/songwriter, find out where to see her performing live and where to follow her on social media. • The Music

    “Love of Your Life”

Heather’s latest release is called “Love of Your Life.” She said it’s “love affair of sorts. Someone you love and cherish, loves and is passionate about something else; in this case it’s their guitar. When I originally recorded this song, I really connected with it. I was really into this guy who had a crazy obsession with cars (still does!) At the time it seemed difficult to find time together because there was always a car to work on. I think one of the most powerful lyrics in this song are ‘I know you love me, faithfully, but there’s one thing you love more than me.'”

  • The Story

    • Grew up in: Stoughton MA
    • Now lives in: Stoughton MA
    • Current single: “Love of Your Life”
    • What lead you to music: It’s always there, even when you can’t hear it directly. Music always came naturally to me. It makes me feel alive & happy & carefree. I often use it as an escape, or motivation. My cousin had a musical experience when I was young that involved ALL the hype. The makeup, the lights, the bustle, photographers…everything. My family said it was right then they knew I was going to be in music because I was the most awestruck 5-year-old they’d ever seen. Now here I am 23 years later- Nashville Recording Artist Heather Lynn! I guess they were right.
    • How old when you started: Rumors & family stories say I was singing before talking. I’ve been in numerous choirs throughout my life including academic, religious, and historic choirs! In fact, I’m very proud to be a current member & singer with the oldest continuous operating choral society in America, The Old Stoughton Music Society. I started formal vocal lessons at 10 years old, and continued throughout college. In between lessons, I was also part of a local musical theater group, all of my schools’ theater clubs, choirs, instrumental bands and my award winning high school marching band (Go Black Knights!). I picked up my first instrument (clarinet) in elementary school and played through 12th grade. In college I learned flute, alto sax, trumpet, and picked up guitar on my own. As for songwriting I started in middle school and haven’t stopped since.
    • First country song you learned: Red Ragtop- Tim McGraw
    • Instruments played: Guitar, piano/keyboard, clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet
    • How would you describe your sound: Powerful/personal. Songs that I’ve written and recorded are about real feelings & events that either I have experienced or that people close to me have experienced. Sometimes those experiences are exhilarating and sometimes they are downright difficult. I want people to relate to my music and say “I’ve been there before. I know exactly what she’s talking about.”
    • Who inspires you: I have learned so much & endured so many trials and tribulations the past few years, that I’ve found a lot of inspiration in myself. I’ve found inspiration in the me that got through all those incredibly hard situations & decided to keep on pushing no matter who or what told me otherwise. That Heather reminds me on hard days “if you made it through that- you can do this.” I’m also inspired by Eric Paslay. He was the first diabetic artist I met in person at the House of Blues Boston, years ago. Hearing him talk about how he tours, sings, and performs while managing his diabetes really solidified for me that anything was possible with T1D and NOTHING was going to hold me back. In terms of music, I’m inspired by a lot of artists. Garth Brooks’ storytelling, Dolly & Reba’s passion, Terri Clark’s attitude, Kenny Chesney’s laid back summer music style. I love how down to earth Lainey Wilson and Luke Combs are. Bailey Zimmerman’s music is just amazing and so real. I think every artist has something inspiring to offer.
    • Dream duet partner: Who could possibly only have 1?! Kenny Chesney/Luke Combs/Reba/Craig Morgan/ Bailey Zimmerman/Taylor Austin Dye/Lainey Wilson/Eric Paslay/Ashley Mcbryde
    • All- time favorite country songs: Any and all female 90’s country songs. That was such a iconic era of country music. I’ve always loved singing Tim McGraw, Luke Combs and Kenny Chesney. But lately I’ve been really into current female country powerhouses like Ashley McBryde, Lainey Wilson, and Taylor Austin Dye (Bible Belt is my latest obsession!!). When they sing, I can’t help but stop whatever I’m doing and just totally immerse myself in every single one of their songs.
    • First country concert: 2009- Keith Urban, opener was Taylor Swift
    • What songs do you like now on Country 1025: Girl Crush (my favorite song to cover by my favorite hometown artist!) World on Fire- Nate Smith, Light on in the Kitchen- Ashley McBryde, Dancin’ in the country- Tyler Hubbard, She Had Me At Heads Carolina-Cole Swindell, Rock & a Hard Place- Bailey Zimmerman (Yes, I could go on for hours…)
    • If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: Luke combs said it best… I’d still be doing this- writing & singing songs and educating little ones.
    • Day Job: Early Education Teacher
    • Most proud moment: Realizing my self-worth. Realizing I can Do hard things on my own and be genuinely happy. Realizing people actually listen to my music & songs… and LIKE them! 13 year old Heather would never believe this.
    • Crazy thing that happened in your music career: 3 Defining moments. 1- I had the opportunity to attend CMAFest 2022 as an artist. As Someone who had never been far out of MA, that was mind-blowing in itself. And when I thought it couldn’t get any crazier- the first few people who came up to me told me they had heard my 1st single (“What’s Going on With You”) in Australia, England and even further parts of Europe and the world. I never thought my music left my hometown, never mind the east coast! 2- August 2022: I had a local gig I was SO Excited for (my 2nd show ever). Only 3 people showed up; my mom, my boyfriend and my best friend. Fast forward 1 year later, summer of 2023- I performed a 4 hour show (2 separate times) for 150+ people who emphatically told me they loved my set, and couldn’t wait to hear & see me again. 3-June 15, 2023: “Love of Your Life” (this song!) hit #8 most listened to in Eastern United States on New Music Weekly Charts.
    • Other things you like to do: Play & snuggle my dog, be on the beach, read on my back porch, travel literally anywhere, playing guitar for kids at daycare.
    • Fun facts: 1. I am a huge advocate for Type 1 & Juvenile Diabetes, as I have been a T1D warrior myself for almost 19years. 2. I collect vinyls- Originals, new artists, old artists; and own 5 that are autographed: Eli Young Band, Billy Currington, Old Crow Medicine Show, Old Dominion, & Eric Paslay. Some of my favorites- Kenny Chesney, Eagles, Luke Combs, Tanya Tucker, Josh Turner and Chris Young. 3. Friends & family lovingly call me a “concert junkie” & “autograph addict”. In addition to the 5 autographed vinyls mentioned above, I also own an autographed Josh Turner Guitar, Autographed Kenny Chesney & King Calaway & Temecula Road & Annie Brobst posters, and autographed Eric Paslay & Dan and Shay CDs.
    • Mantra: Do better than the 1st time, learn from the worst times, get stronger from hurt times (“May We All” by FGL & Tim McGraw). You don’t have to do today again. So do tomorrow better.
