Kruser’s Local Catch

Kruser’s Local Catch

Kruser’s Local Catch

He’s no stranger to singing, writing and performing, he’s been at it most of his life. And yet here he is over 20 years in, releasing a debut single. Meet my Local Catch of the Week, Timothy James from Braintree (now Holbrook). I’m excited to share this talented singer/songwriter’s music, story and interesting fun facts.

At first listen to James’ song “Whole World,” I couldn’t pin point who he shared vocal similarities to, and then it hit me. It’s John Michael Montgomery. And in fact, Timothy revealed that people often compare him to the 90s hit maker of songs like “Sold” and “I Swear.”

James’ warm, golden tones go down easy, and are perfectly suited for storytelling, as his delivery draws you in with every word. Those inviting honeyed vocals profoundly express his emotions throughout the lyrical journey. You can’t help but wonder where his tale will take you.

Timothy’s story is incredibly interesting, from the kinds of music that inspire him to his experiences in the music world. Find out here who’s guitar he won in a songwriting contest. And you’ll also discover what famous rock band HE played for.

Supporting our New England musicians is undeniably important. Today’s hitmakers wouldn’t be where they are without their hometowns and regions behind them. Showing up for things you believe in is key. So, get to know the people behind the voices. You can do that here, and now, by learning more about my Local Catch of the Week, Timothy James from Braintree.

  • The Music

    “Whole World”

    Here’s what Timothy had to say about his debut and what it’s about:  “A mother and her young daughter embark on a journey to reunite with her parents they haven’t seen in years.  As they crossed state lines, memories of the past mingled with uncertainty of change. Arriving in Florida, the bittersweet emotions gave way the warm love they had for each other. In that moment, it was clear they were their whole world and the years apart melted away in the warmth of their love.”

    Here is the just-released official music video for “Whole World”

  • The Story

    * Grew up in: Braintree

    * Now lives in: Holbrook

    * Current single: “Whole World”

    * What lead you to music: I became obsessed with music at an early age listening to big band and early country music spending a lot of time with my grandparents. They had an extensive record collection and I was always combing through to find songs I liked.

    * How long have you been performing: I got my first guitar at 17 and was performing 6 months later. 26 years has been a wild ride !

    * First country song you learned: “Walking after Midnight” by Patsy Cline

    * How would you describe your sound: I’ve been compared vocally to John Michael Montgomery and Gary Allan. I’m country with a mix of blues and Americana. My guitar playing is really a mix of genres to where I am now and that would include Brad Paisley, Danny Gatton, Magic Sam, Vince Gill and Ritchie Valens

    * Who inspires you: Buddy Holly, my favorite Artist ever. There wouldn’t have been the Beatles or the Rolling Stones if it were for his jaw dropping song writing. He cracked the code on American music in my opinion. Gone too soon!

    * Awards/accolades: When I was 20, I received a guitar from Bonnie Raitt in a national songwriting contest. I also played a show and was introduced by Gen. Colin Powell.

    * Dream duet partner: Chris Young or George Straight

    * All- time favorite country songs: Oh boy… “Rose in Paradise” by Waylon Jennings, “I Walk the Line” by Johnny Cash and “The Note” by Daryle Singletary. Nobody sang like Daryle!

    * First country concert: Junior Brown

    * If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: I’d be an actor for sure!

    * Day Job: I’m a numismatist. I have been collecting coins since I was 5 and I am a 4th generation collector turned business man. I love history and it suites me well. I also been in construction my entire life and been in business since 2005.

    * Most proud moment: The day my son was born. He is my greatest Achievement

    * Crazy thing that happened in your music career: I played a wedding and Green Day was there. Yes, the Rock Band was there dancing to my original songs. It was such a cool moment. Nerve wracking too ha!

    * Other things you like to do:  I have many interests but if I’m not songwriting, you can find me doing photography, art or building something. I love to travel and do that much as I can. YOLO!

    * Fun facts about you: I’ve belonged to a boxing Gym for 13 years and trained with Robbie Sims a former Top contender in the Middleweight division. He is also brother to Brockton’s own World Champ Marvin Hagler!

    * Mantra: “You are what you think about’’ by Earl Nightingale.
