Kruser’s Local Catch

This real New England girl embraces a true country lifestyle, as much as her country music. Meet my Local Catch of the Week, Whitney Doucet from Fitchburg. Born and raised in north Worcester county, Whitney is a talented singer/songwriter, and a hugely popular live performer. Get to know Whitney here. Learn all about this artists likes, career, gigs and new music.

When she not on stage, or in the recording studio, you may find Ms. Doucet performing the National Anthem for one of Boston’s professional sports teams. Whitney also was giving the honor of performing it in front of 100,000 fans at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. That was for NASCAR that aired live on ABC for millions of viewers.

Living Her Dream

I’ve known Whitney for quite a few years now, and with each new song, with every performance, she continues to grow. It’s inspiring to watch her journey in a business that can be harsh. She continues to do her thing, and make her music her way. On stage, Doucet never seems anything but excited and honored to be there. This is an artist who absolutely loves what she does. And it shows.

Below, give a listen to the new song from Fitchburg’s pride and joy.  “Never Mine” is lyrically clever and delivered in the usual passionate Whitney style. Embracing each phrase with fervent candor, Doucet delivers the goods on a song about a love that could’ve been.

Nearly 10 years ago, this New England artist earned the right to sing a duet with Keith Urban, thanks to a contest on our station, Country 1025. She had submitted a video and won her way on stage to sing the Miranda Lambert part of “We Were Us.” That experience inspired her to continue her music career. Now, she is a full-time working musician.

Today,  you can see Whitney and her band all over the place. Together they bring a high energy, fun vibe to the stage. Check out the dates to see Whitney Doucet, acoustic or with the Moonshine band.

    “Never Mine”

    I actually wrote this song a few years back. Never Mine is about a friendship between a guy and a girl that took a surprising turn with an unexpected kiss. She realizes he was never hers to begin with because he is already in a relationship. This is one of those songs that I wrote based on a MISHEARD lyric in a song. I was listening to country 102.5 and there was a song on the radio that I thought said “baby you were never mine” and I thought, “well thats a great line for a song too bad I didn’t think of that”. So I kept listening to the song and it turned out the lyric on the radio was in fact not baby you were never mine, it was “you’re a little mind reader”.  So I said AH perfect and sand my idea of the song into my voice memo in about 15 minutes. It was such a fun song to write!

  • The Story

    * From:  Fitchburg MA

    * Current single: Never Mine

    What lead you to music: My Papa Leo (who has since passed on) was the musical man of the family. He played Fiddle and so I played violin when I was a young girl, and was in Fitchburg Youth Orchestra, and eventually switched over to singing.

    *How long have you been performing: I started performing when I was young, and I think I have been performing for about 18 years!

    * First country song you learned: Leann Rimes – How do I live. When I heard the song I was  7 years old and her voice just did something to me. I was 7 years old when I decided I was going to sing!

    * How would you describe your sound: I call my sound, ‘New England Country’ because although I’m not Southern, I did grow up playing outside, in the woods all day long. My first job was working at a farm. I grew up with my father being the all American great outdoorsman with his hunting, and we go deep sea fishing, I  played with 4wheelers and snowmobiles… I live a very NEW ENGLAND COUNTRY lifestyle. So I try to incorporate my real life into the sound of my music. I fell its the best way to be authentically me!

    * Who inspires you:  Well honestly, I have been really inspired by Lainey Wilson winning Entertainer of the year! Honestly any powerhouse female is going to give me some sort of inspiration. Us ladies have to stick together!

    *Awards/accolades: Sang live on stage with Country Music superstar, Keith Urban. Opened for Trace Adkins, Billy Currington and Little River Band and performed with the band on the side stage before Luke Bryan, and Thomas Rhett. Performed our National Anthem at professional sporting events such as the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Bruins and in front of nearly 100,000 people at New Hampshire Motor Speedways NASCAR race, airing live for millions of viewers on ABC. Most recently I co-wrote a song that was featured on an episode of Ginny and Georgia, for Netflix, and on Bravo’s Love Without Borders.

    * Dream duet partner:  Dream Duet partner, AHHH so I got to sing a duet with Keith Urban in 2014 and that was an absolute dream. And I would LOVE to do it again 100%!!!! But Tim McGraw would be really cool!!!

    * All- time favorite country song: There are so many songs ahhhh.  Right now if I had to choose Fall in love – Bailey Zimmerman

    * First country concert: Leann Rimes! I was SO mesmerized by her voice and then I went home and sang every single one of her songs for the next 5 years straight lol

    * If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: I love animals so probably something where I could love on all the furry friends of the world lol

    * Day Job:  Currently a full time musician

    * Most proud moment: Singing with Keith Urban always tops the list but also making the decision to really pursue my music

    *Other things you like to do:  Non music related things I like to do would be throw really fun parties for Halloween and Memorial Day,  walk my dog at the park, go thrifting, anything creative really!

    * Fun facts about you: I won first place in a couple fishing derbies as a kid!

    * Mantra: I am thankful and grateful for all of the good things that have happened and are happening for me right now.
