Kruser’s Local Catch

Kruser’s Local Catch

Country music, especially as of late, really celebrates and encompasses so many genres. There are fragments of pop, rock, folk, island, soul and even jazz in modern country. And so it goes with my Local Catch. I have featured artists who definitley lean folk, pop, rock, and soul, but all have a connection to country music. My Local Catch of the Week, Zane Christopher, grew up in Beverly, MA listening to Kenny Chesney. His journey in life has taken him to California, and his musical journey has taken him all over the map, but has found him landing in alt/pop.

Whatever you want to call Zane’s music, call it pure joy. It’s day drinking on a lazy Sunday, it’s driving down the road with your friends singing at the top of your lungs, it’s lying on the grass looking up at the blue sky, it’s two bare feet on the dashboard, oh wait that is Kenny Chesney. You get the picture. Zane Christopher’s latest release, for me, has a Jack Johnson, singer/songwritery feel with just enough synth and beats to make it pop. It’s joyful melodies with a positive message. And it makes for great summer jam. So, pass me a Corona with a lime, I’ll be searching for heart rocks.

  • Listen To Zane

Zane just released his sophmore single, “Young.” Here’s what he wanted to share about this deeply personal song:

“You’re listening to my 2nd single “Young” which is the 1st out of 7 new songs I’ve recorded since moving to Los Angeles last Fall from Boston. I started writing this song in high school and after many many demos I finally got it to a good place. The reason this song is so special to me is because my grandfather Ralph, who passed away last year, is embedded in the music. I captured audio of him one night when I was first writing the song in 2020, reciting the main line “we’re young baby” and put it in the song. I like this song because it reminds me not to take things too seriously. We’re alive and that’s a miracle. There’s so much to be grateful for. I’m really proud I finished this one.”

    • From: Beverly, MA
    • Now lives in: Venice, CA
    • Current single: (Sophomore single) “Young”
    • What lead you to music:  I was always a major music fan. My first concert was Country Fest 2011. I was a die hard Kenny Chesney fan as a kid. I love all music though as much as that’s a cliche. When I got to high school though is when I got obsessive about it though. I saw Cage the Elephant and it ignited something in me. I will never forget the energy those guys brought. I then saw Mac Demarco later that day and that music just made me feel like I belonged somewhere. I spent high school watching KEXP live sets in class though and had little to no interest in the academics I was required to participate in. I’ve been obsessed with music ever since.  Right now I’m infatuated with The Strokes, Fontaines D.C. and Alex Turner. Experimental Rock is where it’s at.
    • How old when you started: I started singing when I was 12. I started playing guitar when I was 15. I started Piano this year.

    • Dream duet partner: There’s a really talented artist named Lexi Jayde. She’s got a great voice and taste and I would love to do a duet with her. Maybe like a 50’s style ballad with some slapback delay and pedal steel guitar.
    • All- time favorite country song: Dang, “Island Song” – ZBB
    • First country concert: Kenny Chesney-Country Fest 2011
    • Current country favorite: Slow Burn – Kacey Musgraves
