Country music, especially as of late, really celebrates and encompasses so many genres. There are fragments of pop, rock, folk, island, soul and even jazz in modern country. And so it goes with my Local Catch. I have featured artists who definitley lean folk, pop, rock, and soul, but all have a connection to country music. My Local Catch of the Week, Zane Christopher, grew up in Beverly, MA listening to Kenny Chesney. His journey in life has taken him to California, and his musical journey has taken him all over the map, but has found him landing in alt/pop.
Whatever you want to call Zane’s music, call it pure joy. It’s day drinking on a lazy Sunday, it’s driving down the road with your friends singing at the top of your lungs, it’s lying on the grass looking up at the blue sky, it’s two bare feet on the dashboard, oh wait that is Kenny Chesney. You get the picture. Zane Christopher’s latest release, for me, has a Jack Johnson, singer/songwritery feel with just enough synth and beats to make it pop. It’s joyful melodies with a positive message. And it makes for great summer jam. So, pass me a Corona with a lime, I’ll be searching for heart rocks.
