Skammers and thieves are installing credit card skimmers wherever they can and the latest place they’ve been found is our beloved Market Basket! Multiple locations have recently discovered that these skimmers have been being installed in their stores. Now police are urging Basket shoppers to keep an eye on their bank accounts and report any suspicious activity they may see. Time to be diligent so you’re not victimized by these crooks.

How can you tell a credit card machine has a skimmer installed?
One sure sign (and probably the most obvious) is when the chip reader is inactive, jammed, or just not functioning properly. This prompts shoppers to swipe their card’s strip, which is when the skimmer steals your info.

A credit card skimmer was found at a Market Basket in Nashua. The skimmer was found on October 27th. This is the 375 Amherst Street location.
Somerville, Massachusetts
A credit card skimmer was found at a Market Basket in Somerville. The skimmer was found on October 27th.
Reading, Massachusetts
A credit card skimmer was found at a Market Basket in Reading. The skimmer was found on October 26th.
Haverhill, Massachusetts
A credit card skimmer was found at a Market Basket in Haverhill. The skimmer was found on October 26th. I have a call in to see which location the skimmer was found in. I’m waiting to hear back and will update this article when I hear back.
