Since Charlie Baker signed Massachusetts on-line sports betting into law, no matter where you go, look, breathe, eat or smell, sports betting is a new category in our life. Almost every radio or TV ad is about sports betting.

Starting this past January, patrons over 21 are allowed to legally wager on sports in-person at the three major casinos. The Encore Boston Harbor casino in Everett, Plainridge Park Casino (PPC) in Plainville, and the MGM Springfield.

That all changes this Friday, March 10.  Your phone is about to become a casino, as on line mobile betting goes LIVE.

Mobile Betting

According to bookies.com:

So far seven sports betting apps are ready to go live when mobile Massachusetts sports betting launches Friday. Almost all of them have introductory offers. We’ll share below.

What about Raynham and Suffolk Downs?

The MGC is expected to hold its hearing on the former greyhound racing facility’s license on March 23. It has yet to receive an application from the ownership of Suffolk Downs.

Suffolk Downs may be considering a downtown Boston site for its retail sportsbook. Its owners have not announced any plans or even if they plan to partner with any outside operators.

Each of the Massachusetts three casinos have partnered with two online betting operators. Eventually, there will be 11 mobile sportsbooks to chose from when Massachusetts mobile betting realizes its full potential.

  • BetMGM Massachusetts Sportsbook

One of the most established names in the gambling industry, BetMGM prepared for the explosion in sports betting in the U.S. by establishing its own online brand, BetMGM. There’s already an MGM Casino in Springfield that started taking bets on January 31.

BetMGM Mass will be among the first to launch mobile sports betting in Massachusetts on March 10. Excitement for that is building and if you hit the Bet Now link below and sign up at BetMGM MA today, you’ll get $200 in bonus bets from launch day. There is no deposit required (as long as you sign up before March 10).

  • WynnBET Massachusetts Sportsbook

Wynn Resorts were late in arriving to the US online sports betting party but is making up ground rapidly. It has formed alliances with several North American sports organizations to strengthen its brand.

Sign up at WynnBET MA now to get a $50 sports bonus. The $50 bonus has a 5x wagering requirement attached, which means you have to wager through $250 before you can withdraw as cash. Then, from March 10, you can also grab a $100 bet credit bonus with a qualifying $100+ wager. The wager must be placed within seven days of launch (March 10).

  • FanDuel Massachusetts Sportsbook

FanDuel also wastes little time in establishing a foothold in a new market and it has been approved to launch mobile betting in Massachusetts this spring.

But even before that, FanDuel is offering early sign ups $100 in bonus bets (credited on launch day). Anyone who signs up before March 10 (or whenever FanDuel Mass launches) will get $100 in bonus bets credited into their account on launch day. It’s unknown what the post-launch Massachusetts offer will be, but it could be a No Sweat Bet Up to $1,000.

  • Caesars Massachusetts

Caesars Sportsbook has been aggressively expanding in the U.S. and recently launched in Kansas, Maryland, and Ohio. It was pretty obvious then, that Caesars wouldn’t miss out on what is expected to be a very lucractive Massachusetts sports betting market.

Caesars has a partnership with Raynham Park, which will open a Caesars Mass sportsbook this spring. Caesars offers some of the best welcome bonuses in the industry, as well as arguably the best rewards program.

  • DraftKings Massachusetts Sportsbook

Headquartered in Boston, DraftKings is quick off the mark when new states open for business in the U.S. market. For instance, DraftKings was the first to launch when New Jersey sports betting opened for business in 2018. With a likely signup bonus of Bet $5, Get $150 in Bet Credits (if your moneyline wager wins), DraftKings is always a popular option for new bettors.

Unlike some other hometown operators, DraftKings will not have a retail presence. That matters little to most since mobile is King.

  • Barstool Massachusetts Sportsbook

We’ve heard of these guys. Barstool Sportsbook was the lock of the century when it comes to which operators will be live in Massachusetts on Day One. Not only is found Dave Portnoy a Mass native, Penn Gaming, which owns Barstool, runs Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville. Barstool has managed to become one of the most popular sportsbooks, despite the increased saturation of the U.S. market.

That’s because it appeals to the 18-34 crowd better than any operator out there. It’s not only the personalities like Dan “Big Cat” Katz or Dave Portnoy himself, though. It also offers great promotions tied into big events and merch giveaways for bettors who wager at least $100 on select big games.

  • Are There Any Deals or Sign Up Promotions

    YES! According to bookies.com:

Now that online gambling in MA will launch on March 10, bettors in the state can anticipate a highly competitive market as the Massachusetts betting sites seek to build a customer base. That means there will be Massachusetts signup offers. There are three standard forms of Massachusetts sportsbook signup bonus offers:

    • A no-deposit bonus is just what is proclaims to be. For simply signing up at a Massachusetts betting site, players will be given a small stipend – usually around $20 – with which to place a bet.
    • First-Bet Offers are another popular option. Players can make an initial wager up to a designated limit. It the bet doesn’t come in, the money is refunded to their account in the form of bet credits coupons.
    • First-deposit match bonuses frequently are offered. In this instance, a percentage of a player’s initial deposit is matched by the sportsbook, up to 100% depending on the Massachusetts sportsbook. This deposit match can range from $250 up to as much as $1,000.

Remember to read all the terms and conditions covering these betting and MA promo offers before joining Massachusetts betting sites. That includes the wagering requirements on bonus money. There’s a big difference between a 1x playthrough (wager once and winnings can be accessed) and a 20x playthrough.

Also, remember that it’s quite legal – and smart – to sign up with a number of online Massachusetts sportsbooks to capitalize on multiple signup bonuses.

  • Types of Bets Offered in Massachusetts Sportsbooks

    • Moneylines are the most common wager. Players are either betting on a favorite or an underdog to win a game or match outright.
    • Point spread betting adds another layer to this wager. By betting the favorite or underdog, bettors will either give or get points based upon their wagers in exchange for more balanced odds, typically -110.
    • Totals betting asks bettors to choose whether final score of a match will go over under a specified number.
    • Props are bets on specific outcomes within a game, either from a player or a team.
    • Parlays bets combine multiple wagers in one betslip. Parlays offers signficantly higher payouts, however, that’s because the probablity of all “legs” of your parlay winning are lower. High risk, high reward.
    • Futures are plays on long-term outcomes such as Super Bowl winner and individual awards such as NFL MVP.
  • What Sports Leagues Can I Bet On At Massachusetts Betting Sites?

    NFL, is the most popular.

Not far behind, MLB and NBA.

Around here, NHL is very popular!

  • Can I Bet On College Sports?

With Boston College, Boston University, UMass, Harvard, Holy Cross and Northeastern, betting on NCAA sports will also prove popular on online betting sites in Massachusetts. However, it is important to note that under the current legislation, betting on in-state college teams will be prohibited except when they play in tournaments. In other words, we can’t bet on college teams until they are in the finals.

  • How are Massachusetts Betting Sites Regulated?

Massachusetts sports betting is regulated under the purview of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. It requires all bettors to be at least 21 years old and physically present in Massachusetts to place a bet.

The MGC has also implemented numerous consumer safeguards to protect against problem gambling like those that were put into place for casinos when Massachusetts expanded gaming in 2011, including the ability to set limits and to self-exclude.

  • Payment Options

The best Massachusetts online gambling sites offer a variety of payment methods. These vary from traditional credit and debit cards such as Visa and Mastercard to e-wallets such as PayPal and Skrill, as well as online bank transfers, Play+ and more.
