Move over Liam, we have a brand new baby name winner for 2023. Every year, baby names are analyzed and lists are released announcing the most popular names and this year is no different. The website babycenter.com has released its list and there are some repeats on there and some newbies. Before we run down the list of top boy and girl names, let’s look at how they decide the clear cut “winners.”

Baby Center analyzed over 300,000 babies that were born this year. While there weren’t too many changes for the most popular girl names, the boy names did have a lot of shifting around. We will run down #20-#6 here for both boys and girls, then we we will count down #5-#1 below. For girls names: #20 Layla, #19 Camila, #18 Sofia, #17 Mila, #16 Harper, #15 Ellie, #14 Aurora, #13 Aria, #12 Lily, #11 Gianna, #10 Evelyn, #9 Luna, #8 Mia, #7 Isabella, #6 Ava. And for boys #20 Theo, #19 Benjamin, #18 Maverick, #17 Hudson, #16 Muhammad, #15 Henry, #14 Sebastian #13 Ethan, #12 James, #11 Asher, #10 Luca, #9 Ezra, #8 Leo, #7 Levi, #6 Lucas.

Even TV shows and movies impacted baby names this year. “The Last of Us” definitely inspired boosts in names like Ellie and Joel. And the show “Succession” inspired a rise in baby names like Kendall and Siobhan.

As far as the #1 baby boy name, Noah, it has dethroned Liam who actually reigned supreme for the past four years. Although, it didn’t drop too far down the list. Let’s take a look at the top 5 baby boy names and baby girl names for 2023.

  • Baby Girl #5: Charlotte

    Famous Charlottes include Charlotte from Sex and the City and Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge. Charlotte is of French origin meaning means “free man” or “petite,” and is the feminine form of Charles.
