My Mother-In-Law Is Forcing Me To Wear An Ugly Wedding Dress

Would you wear an ugly wedding dress if it meant everything else would be your dream wedding?
Here’s Her Story Of The Ugly Wedding Dress Drama
Jonathan: We’ve got Vanessa on with us. Hey, Vanessa.
Vanessa: Hi. How are you?
Jonathan: Fantastic. Your problem is that you don’t want to be a bridezilla, but you don’t want to look like Godzilla either. Marching down the aisle. What’s going on?
Vanessa: Well. My fiancé and I don’t have a lot of money. We definitely have needed a little bit of help with our wedding. My mother-in-law is so generous. And she says she will pay for my dress, which is very nice.
Ayla: That’s really nice.
Jonathan: It is nice. The thing is, we went bridal gown shopping, and she picked out this gaudy rhinestone covered over the top really hideous dress.
Ayla: Not your style.
Vanessa: Not my style at all. At all.
Jonathan: But she thinks it’s gorgeous.
Vanessa: Oh, yeah. She loves it. It’s expensive. I mean, it’s a very expensive dress. And she’s paying for it. So that’s okay. And we need the money. We can’t really have a wedding without help. I mean, we could go to the courthouse, but you know all this.
Ayla: No, I totally get what you’re saying, and I totally get your predicament too. Because she is your mother-in-law. The person that I want to also impress because I’m marrying her son.
Vanessa: Yes.
Ayla: She’s willing to pay, but the one that she wants is not what you want. So what do you do?
Jonathan: I don’t get this problem at all.
Vanessa: Why?
Jonathan: Why is it a problem? Who cares what you look like? If that’s the main issue, I get it. But you could look good wearing a cheap dress.
Ayla: Yeah, but she’s saying that her mother-in-law doesn’t want to get this cheap dress. She wants to get a specific one, and she’s paying for it. And she sounds like she’s going crazy.
Jonathan: I’m sorry. I didn’t mean cheap dress. I mean a gaudy dress. I’m sure you’ll look great anyway. So what? And she’s paying for it. Can’t you just appreciate that?
Ayla: But it’s Vanessa’s day. She should be able to be happy.
Jonathan: Oh my God, you women and your special day.
Ayla: Well, it is.
Vanessa: Why can’t we collaborate a little bit more? But it’s because she’s got the power, she’s paying for it. And I don’t want to appear ungrateful.
Jonathan: Oh, you kind of do.
Ayla: No she didn’t.
Jonathan: Yes she does.
Ayla: I’m glad you called us. Because I think there are other people that have been in this situation before of feeling guilty.
Jonathan: You mean being ungrateful?
Ayla: No. Taking someone’s money because they needed it and they then all of a sudden they didn’t have a say in it.
Jonathan: There are strings attached.
Ayla: Thank you. Yeah. So no strings attached.
Jonathan: Okay, well, then don’t accept the money.
Vanessa: I don’t know if that’s a possibility to be honest.
Jonathan: Okay, fine. Maybe it’s just me. I wouldn’t care how I looked on my wedding day if I didn’t have to pay for it. Like if I was getting a deal out of it, I wouldn’t care.
Ayla: So someone could dress you up in a clown suit.
Jonathan: Fine If I didn’t pay for the makeup. I don’t care.
Ayla: Well, some people do.
Jonathan: Vanessa, thank you so much.
Vanessa: Thank you.
