My Uncle thinks that The Waterboy is one of the most incredible films and that everyone should watch it. DO you agree with his choices?

My crazy uncle thinks everyone should watch these “stupid” movies. Truthfully, I’m saying these movies are stupid, because to me they’re some of the most immature movies ever made! To my uncle, however, they are the best movies ever created.

We’ve all been there: the family get-together where the conversation shifts to movies. There’s always that one relative with an… unconventional taste. Most families have the proverbial “crazy uncle.” It’s their beloved family member with movie choices that make everyone else tilt their heads in curiosity or burst into laughter. For me, that eccentric relative is none other than Uncle Jerry.

My Uncle Jerry Is Probably Very Similar To Your Uncle

Now, before we dive into Jerry’s cinematic choices, let me paint you a picture of the man himself. Uncle Jerry is the kind of guy who seems to have an endless arsenal of off-color, goofy jokes. He’s the human embodiment of a mischievous twinkle in the eye. As one of 14 children hailing from Weymouth, He’s had a lifetime of comedic material to gather, refine, and regale to anyone within earshot. He can always be counted on to lighten the mood with his unpredictable and often cheeky sense of humor. And, let’s be honest, with the emotional maturity of a middle school boy, Jerry’s movie choices match that maturity.

When it comes to movies, Uncle Jerry’s tastes are as unpredictable as the jokes he cracks at family gatherings. While some might raise an eyebrow or roll their eyes at his cinematic choices, there’s no denying the charm in his penchant for the unconventional. Every family has a Jerry, and while we may sometimes question their film choices, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

After all, what would family movie night be without a little bit of the unexpected, courtesy of our very own “crazy uncles?”

Here’s 12 Movies My Uncle Says We All Need To Watch

  • Caddyshack

My Uncle wants you to watch Caddyshack “because they have so many quotable lines that are timeless.” This is obviously a cult classic and a great one if you like golf.

American actor and comedian Rodney Dangerfield (1921 - 2004) as he appears in Caddyshack, directed by Harold Ramis, 1980.

Caddyshack came out the year I was born, in 1988! It’s been a cult classic ever since.

  • The Blues Brothers

My Uncle loves music and plays a mean guitar. He says that The Blues Brothers has “great music and they’re on a mission from God. It’s a comedy but it has great music if you like the blues.” I personally haven’t seen it yet, but I do like movies about music, so I may give this one a go.

  • Austin Powers

My Uncle says that we should all watch Austin Powers because it’s “just plain stupid.” And I agree with him! This might be one of the stupidest movies ever made, but Mike Myers was absolutely acting in multiple roles. Did you know that he played four characters in Austin Powers Goldmember? He played Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Fat Bastard, and Johann Van der Schmutt (Goldmember).

1997 Mike Myers and Robert Wagner star in the movie "Austin Powers"

Austin Powers is a cult classic, but incredibly immature. But still incredibly brilliant.

  • Animal House

“Brings me back to my college days,” says my Uncle. Maybe my Uncle had a different college experience than I did! My dad also thinks this is a classic movie.

  • Revenge Of The Nerds

His reasoning for watching Revenge of the Nerds is “because sometimes the underdog prevails.” I could think of a number of sports movies where the underdog prevails, but hey, this is his choice, not mine!

  • Porkys

“The only reason people like Porkys is because of the shower scene.” I have NO idea what scene he’s talking about but it must be memorable!

  • Spaceballs

“It’s out of this world.” Mel Brooks’ crazy take on the sci-fi genre combines two things Jerry loves: outer space and absolute silliness.

  • Monty Python's The Holy Grail

“Succinctly, best movie ever made.” Those are pretty big words Uncle Jerry! I guess I will have to watch it to see if you’re actually correct in that statement.

  • The Princess Bride

My uncle says that The Princess Bride is “just a classic that everyone should see. It combines romance, fantasy and comedy.” But I think it’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. I could barely get through this the one time I saw it.

  • Back To School

“Because only one guy can do the ‘triple lindy.'” Once again, I have no idea about that reference, but my Uncle seems to think most people know it. Have you seen this ‘classic?’

  • Groundhog Day

My Uncle says that “it just keeps getting better.” But I actually agree with him that Groundhog Day is a classic movie that all people should see at some point in their lives. It’s not my favorite Bill Murry film, but it’s a great one. (Scrooged is my favorite).

  • The Waterboy

“The only Adam Sandler movie that I can watch” says my Uncle, and I agree with him! I am not a massive Adam Sandler fan, but this one he really plays the character perfectly.
