Jimmy Buffett would have approved. The man who immortalized the "that frozen concoction that helps me hang on" would have appreciated knowing where to get the best of the best. Well hang on, and raise your glass. And Cheers to 11 great places to grab a margarita in Boston.

There are so many fantastic spots to get margaritas in the greater Boston area. Whatever season and whatever reason, a well made marg is good anytime of year. It can warm you up and take you away to tropical places on a chilly day. It can cool you down on a hot day. They come spicy, savory, sweet, salty, and in a variety of fun glasses.

A margarita is, without doubt, one of the most festive cocktails. So, stop searching for your "lost shaker of salt" and head out to one of these places known for their margaritas. I don't know about you, but I prefer mine on the rocks with a salt rim in a traditional margarita glass. But hey, I'm always up for an adventure.

The Research Behind Finding The Best Places To Grab a Margarita In Boston?

I have been to several of the places listed below. And I'm banking on the reviewers on google searches, personal experience, Foursquare and Yelp reviews to help out with this important research. Feel free to share where you go for the best margaritas in town. Rule of thumb, get the good tequila, especially with the first margarita. After one, you may not notice the difference. So, without further ado, cheer to 11 great places to grab a margarita in Boston!

According to cointreau.com, the margarita was invented when a Dallas socialite by the name of Margarita Sames mixed her two favorite spirits. She combined Cointreau and tequila with lime juice while vacationing in Acapulco back in 1948. This original Margarita recipe with triple sec has stood the test of time for over 75 years. Of course, you can also use Triple Sec or Grand Marnier in the recipe for a traditional margarita. But why not expand your horizons, get crazy and go to one of these awesome spots for margs.

1. Pepper Taco and Tequila Bar

120 Savin Hill Ave. Boston

The house margarita at Ghost Pepper is all you will ever need. Heat up the night with Ghost Tequila, jalapeño, blue agave, lime, lemon, and a spiced rim.

2. Yellow Door Taqueria

2297 Dorchester Ave. Boston

354 Harrison Ave. Boston

1619 Tremont St. Boston

You'll find Yellow Door in their original location in the Lower Mills area of Dorchester, in the South End and now in Mission Hill. I LOVE their coconut margarita. Fabulous and interesting tacos and amazing margs.

3, Citrus and Salt

319 A St. Boston

This "Baja inspired" restaurant has a costal vibe with fun decor and mucho margaritas, with a large selection of tequila and mescal. Citrus and Salt's signature margarita is made with  Monte Alban tequila, orange liquor, lime, citrus salt rim. Get it frozen or on the rocks.

4. Barra

23 A Bow Street, Somerville

This Union Square favorite focuses on agave spirits. They use lesser known Mexican liquors like Xtabentun. Barra's house margarita is legendary. It's simple but sensational. Plus you can add on! It's prepared with tequila or mezcal and can be bedazzle with a  grasshopper rim, using the crunchy, traditional snack as a unique cocktail garnish. It was recently awarded the "Best Mexican Restaurant" honors by Boston Magazine.

5. Lolita Cocina and Tequila Bar

271 Dartmouth St. Boston (Back Bay)

253 Summer Street. Boston (Fort Point)

Offering a "ultra modern and sophisticated approach to Mexican cuisine and craft cocktails," Lolita's signature margarita is made with blanco tequila, house orange liqueur, lime, grapefruit. You had me at grapefruit. Can't wait to try this one.

6. Bartaco Seaport

25 Thomson Pl. Boston

As a Foursquare reviewer proclaimed: "Fresh lime margaritas!" And that's all we need to know. Ok, there is more to know. Bartaco Seaport has some really some captivating margarita choices, but their signature is made with libélula joven tequila + combier liqueur d’orange + agave syrup + lime juice and you can kick it up with spice too.

7. La Posada

505 Medford St. Somerville

I discovered this little neighborhood gem, by accident on a Google search. And wow! La Posada has quickly become a favorite! We have been back 3 times. It's a very small space, but the food is great, service amazing and those margaritas! Even in a pitcher, there are exceptional. Nothing fancy here, just a really good margarita.

8. Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar

412 W Broadway, Boston

Located in the heart of Southie, Loco serves 40 different types of tequila. If you order their "You're A Peach" margarita $1 from every drink will go the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston.  It's made with Flecha Azul Blanco, lemon, agave, peach puree and peach bitter. Peachy!

9. Bodega Canal

57 Canal St, Boston

At Bodega Canal they serve classic Mexican food, and “tequila forward cocktails.” Try their Spicy Cucumber Margarita! It's made with muddled cucumbers and Ghost Pepper Tequila.

10. Sol Azteca

914A Beacon St, Boston

There's a "touch of Old Mexico" here at Sol Azteca. It's all about authenticity here. And they obviously know what they are doing, because this is one of Boston's first Mexican restaurants, opening in 1974. According their website: "All our margaritas are made to order with fresh lime juice, real agave, and only premium tequilas.  We never use artificial mixes or powdered flavors."  If you like spice, I recommend the Sol Spicy! It's made with Espolon Blanco tequila (house infused with fresh peppers, spices) Grand Marnier, lime juice, agave.

11. Lone Star Taco Bar

479 Cambridge St., Allston

635 Cambridge St., Cambridge

Lone Star is a Texas style taqueria. Try their signature marg with Jalapeño and habanero-agave syrup, Reposado tequila, mezcal, and lime, and garnished with a spiced salt rim.
