Ready For A Shucking Fun Weekend? Get The Scoop On Wellfleet OysterFest

Roughly eleven thousand people a day are expected to descend on the tiny Cape Cod town of Wellfleet this weekend. So it’s good to be prepared before heading there for their hugely popular annual celebration. It’s best to know before you go. So, if you’re ready for a shucking fun weekend, get the scoop on Wellfleet OysterFest here!

Are you an oyster lover? Well, aw shucks, this is the event for you. Not a fan? This is also the event for you. There is so much to do and see and participate in. From live music to food, beer and wine, shopping at local merchants tables and tents. There’s oyster shucking competitions, food demos and tastings, a family fun area and oyster farm tours. There really is something for everyone.

Wellfleet SPAT, which stands for Shellfish Promotion and Tasting, Inc presents the annual festive and family- friendly event that brings together locals and visitors for 2 days. The event first started back in 2001. Most years it was held on Main Street in town, but in 2019 it was moved to Baker’s Field. This year marks the return to town and Main Street.

Some of the lower Cape’s most popular bands will be performing, along with other New England favorites.     • DATES: Saturday and Sunday October 14-15
    • TIMES: 10am-5pm
    • LOCATION: 300 Main Street Wellfleet, MA 02667

    Total cost for a ticket is $23

    You must have a ticket to enter.

    Kids 12 and under are FREE! But they must have a ticket to enter, there is a “kid specific ticket.”

     

  • Parking

    • Wellfleet OysterFest offers FREE PARKING & SHUTTLES
    • You can park at one of the 3 beaches on Ocean View Drive.● Lecount Hollow Beach ●White Crest Beach ● Newcomb Hollow Beach. Each beach will have a designated drop off and pick up location.
    • Shuttles will operate all day, about every 30 minutes, starting at 10am from the Ocean View Drive Parking Lots to the corner of Main and Bank Streets in Town.
    • Guests will be dropped off at the Town Hall Entrance Gate.
    • Plan ahead as each shuttle will likely be full.
    • Local private citizens & businesses will also be offering paid parking closer to the Festival
    • HANDICAP PARKING: There will be 20 FREE handicap parking spots available at Mayo Beach with shuttle service to the entrance at Holbrook/Briar and Main Street

  • Musical Lineup

    There is live music both days starting at 10am. The last bands go one at 2:45. Enjoy all kinds of music from New Orleans Hot Jazz, to rock, funk, R&B, soul, folk/country, reggae, blues, ska and gospel. Popular Cape bands include The Rip It Ups, The Grab Brothers, Sara Burrill, Woof Woof Meow and many more! Check out the FULL LIST of artists and times here:

  • The Rules

    Every great event comes with a short list of rules to keep chaos at bay, and this one is no exception. The following are a list of rules from Wellfleet SPAT

    OysterFest Rules and Regulations

    1. NO dogs are allowed at the fest
    2. NO ticket = NO entry
    3. NO tickets will be sold at the gate
    4. EVERYONE needs a ticket for entry
    5. General admission – $23
    6. Kids 12 & under FREE (separate ticket for 12 & under)
    7. Wellfleet Residents (with a Wellfleet address) are FREE on Sunday
    8. ALL events happen RAIN OR SHINE
    9. Designated Handicap Parking at Congo Church (fee according to Congo Church) & FREE Handicap Parking at Mayo Beach
    10. Tickets are final sale – no refunds
