It’s Shark Week! The hugely popular Discovery Channel show is sinking its teeth into its 34th season. It kicked off last night, and promises a week filled with thrills, chills, tragedies and near misses. The tv series will also spotlight Cape Cod.
Those of us who visit Cape Cod pretty much live it every summer, and this summer has been one for the record books. Just this past weekend, there were 22 shark sightings in 2 days off the coast of the Cape, a majority of them Great White Sharks. There was even a baby great white spotted in Provincetown waters, off Race Point Beach.
This year, Shark Week will spotlight a 2018 Cape Cod tragedy, when a Revere surfer was killed in Wellfleet. The show will also shadow scientists who are searching for ways to prevent shark attacks like the one on Cape Cod. Over the years, shark sightings on the Cape have become almost as frequent as the summer traffic jams, and dollar oyster nights.
Shark Week has quite a line-up for fans of the Discovery/Discovery Plus show, and will culminate with the episode focused on Cape Cod, called Monsters of the Cape.
