It’s a good news bad news situation. Good news first: Car thefts in Massachusetts are down, by nearly 40% since 2011. The bad news: The most frequently stolen car is hugely popular. So chances of this car being owned by you, or someone you know, are pretty high.

The most stolen car in Massachusetts in not a fancy car, and the same with our other New England states. So BMWs, Teslas and Mercedes are off the list. The most stolen car is a basic, fuet efficienct sedan. According to Quote Wizard (a car insurance quote website), the popular Honda Accord is the car most frequently swiped from the streets of Mass. The moral of the story: People will risk prison for a dependable ride.

Let’s take a deeper look into the results of the report that used FBI crime data for all of New England. You will likely be surprised by at least one or two.

  • Massachusetts

The Honda Accord is the most stolen car here in the Bay State. The 2nd most lifted models are Honda Civic and Toyota Camrys. But, here is some more positive news: Massachusetts had the 5th lowest vehicle theft rate in the country. We averaged 99 thefts per 100,000 people (according to the report).

  • New Hampshire

In the Granite State, apparently it’s not fuel efficiency that drives auto thefts. It’s hauling practicality. The Ford Pick-up is the most frequently stolen vehicle in New Hampshire.

  • Connecticut

Honda Accord wins again. (Or loses, as the case may be). The most stolen car in the Constitution State is also a Honda Accord. By the way, Connecticut was the only New England state to see an increase in car theft. according to the report, with a significan increase of 27%.

  • Vermont

Interesting fact about our friends in the Green Mountain State; They were the only state in the country to have any Subaru models among its top three most frequently stolen cars. The findings show that the Subaru Impreza was Vermont’s most stolen car. Incidentally, Vermont saw the biggest car theft decrease in the country, with a 50% drop, the report found.
