‘Tis the season for giving. And our Bruins brought their A game yesterday for some of their youngest fans. Watch the Boston Bruins raise holiday spirits for kids in some area hospitals.

With a break in their game schedule, a few of the boys in black and gold traded in their jerseys for more festive attire. Charlestown’s Matt Grzelcyk gave up the helmet for a funny Santa’s red trousers hat. The entire Boston Bruins roster showed up at the area hospitals. Teammates like Charlie McAvoy, Kevin Shattenkirk, Jeremy Swayman and Danton Heinen joined in the festivities. They visited Mass General Hospital, Boston Children’s, Franciscan Children’s, Shriners Children’s Boston and Spaulding Rehab.

The Bruins have been in the holiday cheer business since Ray Bourque was on their captain. According to Boston.com, last week the Bs rode their figurative sleigh to shop for toys for the girls and boys. Grzelcyktold the online news source, “This is one of the highlights of the year for us — just to walk in, see the smile on their face and kind of give them an early look into what Christmas is going to bring them. Especially for me being from here, it means a little bit more, so it’s something I look forward to each year.”

The kids were treated to visits from the players. Plus, they got autographs, played games and took pictures with the Bs. McAvoy was dressed as a Christmas tree, while other teammates were donning snowmen and various other festive costumes.

The Bruins’ break proved to be a welcome break for kids playing for their lives. A much welcome distraction from their daily struggles to survive was just what the doctor ordered. The spirit was in full force all over Boston.

Swayman was very green…as he spread cheer dressed as Buddy the Elf.

  • Fun And Games For Everyone

The cold competition was enough to melt this rookie snowman. But fun was had by all!

  • Santa's Hockey Helpers

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, thanks to the Bruins.

  • Even Bergy was There. Kind Of.

Ok, so maybe “Nobody wants a Charlie in a Box,” but everybody likes a Charlie in a tree. McAvoy delivered the toys and charm. And discovered his former teammate and Captain was still a fierce presence on the team.

Another reason to love our Boston Bruins…Not just for playing hard on the ice, but for continuing the tradition of making the holidays special for so many.
