Country artist Maren Morris wasn't the first artist to record vocals for "The Middle." The pop anthem produced and released under Zedd was recorded by at least a dozen artists including Demi Lovato, Bebe Rexha and Camila Cabello.

The song debuted during a Target commercial in February during The Grammys, and has since made its way up the pop charts. The song currently sits at No. 5 on Billboard's Hot 100, up one spot from last week.

Charlie XCX who also recorded vocals prior to Morris, said in a tweet that "Maren sounds so beautiful on this song."

She also said the song was "too high in pitch" which may have caused her to miss the cut on one of the biggest songs of 2018, so far.
