A Rhode Island High Speed Chase Ends With Taylor Swift
A high speed chase in Rhode Island had an interesting ending early Tuesday morning. It involves a crash, the police and Taylor Swift.
If you haven’t heard the story, Oxygen.com has it pretty well summed up:
A 19-year-old man crashed a stolen car into the front gate of Swift’s Rhode Island home early Tuesday. The police pursuit took off at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday after an officer noticed a car without license plates and tried to pull the vehicle over, according to local outlet The Westerly Sun.
After the officer got out of the patrol car and tried to approach the vehicle, the driver sped away, prompting officers to pursue the car, which reached 65 miles per hour while fleeing from authorities through the Westerly neighborhood, according to the outlet.
The suspect, who has since been identified as Hartford, Connecticut resident Shykeim Edwin Lewis, struck the wall outside Swift’s house while traveling at around 35 miles per hour, and subsequently ricocheted into the entrance gate, the publication reports. Lewis and two occupants in the car — 18-year-old Kajae Correa and a 16-year-old boy whose name has not been shared — were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
A fourth occupant of the car, 18-year-old Taquan Nealey, fled the scene on foot but was later tracked down by police after his brother, driving a car with Connecticut license plates, came to the area to retrieve him, according to The Westerly Sun’s report. He was allowed to leave after giving a written statement, police reportedly said.
Best part, Taylor herself has now commented on the incident, in the most perfect fashion; her own lyrics:
