Parents Claim Adopted 6 Year Old is 22 and Tried to Kill Them
Kristine Barnett and ex-husband Michael Barnett have been charged with abandoning their daughter when she was 9 in Lafayette, Indiana, and fleeing to Canada. Though there’s no questioning that they cut off ties with their 9 year old, the Barnett’s say they are actually victims of a fraud, claiming the girl they adopted was an adult con artist who tried to kill them! The family adopted their daughter Natalia back in 2010 when she was 6 – this was an emergency adoption! The family was told that Natalia was 6 years old… however the behavior that allegedly unfolded was atypical of a 6 year old. According to DailyMail, the family claims “Natalia tried pushing [them] onto an electric fence, poured bleach into [their] coffee and threatened to stab the Barnetts in their sleep.” When brought to mental health specialists, they determined Natalia was actually an adult and pressed for the courts to have her birth certificate changed! However, there are speculations as to what her actual age was at the time of her abandonment. Arrest warrants were issued and both Michael and Katherine surrendered to authorities and have been released on bail. Investigation is currently going on and Natalia’s location remains unknown.
