Catch Of The Week: Ken Macy
Meet Ken Macy from Gardner, MA
There’s a warmth, and a comfort in listening to Ken Macy songs. Engaging melodies and relatable lyrics hook you in, and keep you on the line. This singer/songwriter has dabbled in all kinds of genres, and from a young age. At 13, Macy was learning electric guitar and listening to everything from Black Sabbath to Tom Petty. He developed a love and appreciate for country and southern rock, listening to it with his parents.
When Ken was just 14, he started playing in coffeehouses, and local talent shows. He would eventually would move on to bigger stages. Working as a session musician in multiple band with different styles, as lead guitarist and back up vocalist, only quenched his thirst for more. The kid from Westminster had written his first album by the age of 19.
Macy stepped out on his own in 2008. Now, not only was he writing, and singing and playing, but Ken had moved on to producing his own music. His hard work came to fruition in 2008 when he won 2 Worcester Music Awards for Best CD and Best Blues Act. Continuing to experiment with different genres, earning more music awards and taking some time off lead him to where he is now. A working singer/songwriter, with a healthy schedule, and 50 songs under his belt to share, there is no slowing down this talented artist.

- What lead you to music: I always enjoyed songs and listening to music. When I
was a kid I loved listening to records with my parents. I grew up on Tom Petty, The
Eagles, Johnny Cash and more - Instruments played: Guitar, Vocals, Bass
- How would you describe your sound: Country with Soul and Rock and Roll for a genre. True honest music from the heart
- Who inspires you: Definitely Tom Petty and more recently Chris Stapleton. Chris’ voice is unbelievable and I love his songwriting. Very versatile and talented
- Awards/accolades: Five Worcester Music Awards including Best Album “Blueprints” and “Best Solo Act”
- All-time favorite country songs: : Currently,”Tennessee Whiskey” – Chris Stapleton. I love singing and hearing that song but I also enjoy “Fast As You” Dwight Yoakam and “Ring Of Fire” by Johnny Cash
- Favorite country concert: I’d love to see Brad Paisley someday. I think he’s great!
- What songs do you like now on Country 1025: Thomas Rhett- “Die A Happy Man.” Great song very well written and love the groove.
- If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: I like fishing, being outside in nature, enjoying ,me with my family, friends and my fiancé.
- Day Job : Full Time Musician
- Most proud moment: I enjoy a lot of little moments and victories. When people enjoy singing along to your songs to continuing playing live, to winning awards. I’m
proud to be doing what I love for a living and having the support from my family, friends and fans - Craziest thing that happened in your music career: I was once playing this dive bar in a rough part of a town and I asked the audience for a request to break the ice. One woman yelled out “Tony Danza!”. So I replied “Huh?” She replies: “Tony Danza!” The Tony Danza song. You know? Hold me closer Tony Danza!” “Oh you mean Tiny Dancer by Elton John! Gothca! Coming right up!” So the whole song I sang “Hold Me Closer Tony Danza” instead of “Hold Me Closer Tiny Dancer” and everyone laughed. It was a good ice breaker
- Other things you like to do: Watching Baseball and Hockey, drinking coffee, traveling and taking pictures of nature
- Fun facts: 1) I used to be a hockey player. I still love the game but left it to pursue music. Iplayed from five years old to thirteen. 2) I really enjoy carving pumpkins. It’s hard to do but I have fun making these creations! Once I finish them I give them to my friends and family. 3) I enjoy collecting shot glasses and coffee mugs from friends, family or my travels. Reminds me of where I’ve been and where I’d like to go. Each one has a story.
