End Of An Era: The Lobster Claw Restaurant Is Closing After 50 Years!
If you’ve ever traveled to the Cape, you’ve heard the jingle…
“The Lobster Claw Restaurant, great dining by the sea (we always chuckled at that line because they are a few miles from the ocean)…At the Lobster Claw Restaurant we’re one big family.”
As I write this, there is a gift card in my car just waiting to be used. My heart is a little heavy this morning, as the iconic Cape Cod tourist eatery is closing it’s doors after this season, and more than 50 years in business. The last day to grab your lobster roll and reminisce will be Sunday, September 13, 2020.

A staple in the town of Orleans since 1962, the restaurant was purchased in 1970 by Don and Marylou Berig and they’ve been happily serving up Cape favorites ever since. It truly is a quintessential Cape seafood spot. From the nautical decor, to the wait staff, to the tourists and the locals, it’s provided a comfy, casual ambiance for hungry visitors seeking traditional fare for over a half a century.
I was living on the Cape, in Orleans, during Hurricane Bob, back in 1991 and I remember it was the only place open in the entire area, thanks to a generator. They’ve been there for so many people, for so many summers, and so many celebrations.
Congrats to the Berigs for a job well done, and a well deserved retirement from a very tough business. Time to watch a few sunsets.
