(Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty Images)It was a tough day for Red Sox fans on Saturday. Our beloved, longtime NESN Sox broadcaster and former 2nd baseman succumbed to cancer, after a 13 year valiant battle.
Jerry Remy was a gem; a funny, smart, talented player and broadcaster. His was a voice we could trust. His opinions were steeped in knowledge, not only from being a player, but a fan of the game himself. And we could always, always count on him for comic relief, and for occasionally being completely human and losing it to laughter in the broacast booth.
Needless to say, the internet responded to his passing on Saturday night at the age of 68 with an outpouring of love, admiration, and sadness.
I don't think he ever laughed harder than with his longtime partner- in -the- booth, Don Orsillio, who shared some of his favorite RemDawg moments.
This one will keep you from your job today...all day on repeat!
This really says it all...
I LOVE this idea: Jerry Remy Way
Big Papi showing big love for RemDawg during his broadcast
We last saw Jerry on October 5, when the Sox battled the Yankees in the American League Wild Card Game. Remy threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Dennis Eckersley, his former teammate and co-worker in the broadcast booth. He was, and will always be our good luck charm.
RIP RemDawg
Red Sox nation will forever hold you close in our hearts.
