Elle King ‘Would Do Anything’ With Lainey Wilson

Elle King has added hosting to her CMA Fest 2023 festivities as she, Dierks Bentley and Lainey Wilson are hosting the CMA Fest Nissan Stadium for an ABC TV special to air in July. She stepped backstage to chat with us before she began work last night (6/8).

Elle loves her co-host for the TV special and when asked about Lainey Wilson, she said she would love to do more than TV hosting with her. She told us, "I would do anything with Lainey, and she might be the most country person I've ever met in my life. She's just badass. I won't wear tight pants next to her, but I'd sing with her."

King also talked about how her life has changed since making the move to Nashville and recording her first country album, Come Get Your Wife. She explained, "My life has changed exponentially, I think. I don't know if it was just timing, like right after I had my baby and I made the country record, I just felt so drawn back here (Nashville)."

She added, "My whole band moved here, so I have my whole touring family here with me, and I feel very accepted by Nashville, by country music, and I've just never been happier. I think I owe a lot of that to Dierks Bentley."

Elle has been quite domestic since her move to Tennessee. She offered, "I'm mowing the grass a lot, building too many pieces of outdoor furniture. So, I like to get tan and work on the yard, and two out of three of my neighbors like me, so I'll take that."

As for hosting the ABC CMA Fest TV special for the second year in a row, she shared her prep work and what not to do. She said, "Don't stick my tongue out and just reevaluate what I saw the first time. Dierks brought me into these scenarios, just a community of working with the same people and making new friends. I don't know that I've learned good lessons. I'm shocked every time they ask me to do it, but it's an absolute joy, and I love it."

King concluded, "And I get to go to my house because I live here now. It's exciting, and you get to hear some badass music."

Elle King, who came to country music from the world of pop music, will be releasing her first full country album tomorrow (1/27) called Come Get Your Wife. She celebrated the new work with a listening party in Nashville on Tuesday (1/24), playing songs for friends in the industry, including Dierks Bentley, who came to celebrate and sing a duet with King on stage.

The album title reflects something a guy yelled out over her at a bar, and she never forgot it. Elle told us, "Even the album title, it comes from something some a--hole said to my partner one night. Something thrown off in a bar, intended to put me in my place… and he probably didn't think twice about it. But I did."

The album has twelve tracks on it, including her chart-topper with Miranda Lambert, "Drunk (And I Don't Want To Go Home)," and a new duet with Dierks Bentley called "Worth A Shot." King says of the new work, "Releasing my debut country album is packed full of emotions. Mostly excitement and full of a lot of gratitude because I really am just so blown away by country music fans and how they've, you know, accepted me and still let me continue to just be wild and rowdy and be myself. And it's just a blessing." She added, "I have poured my heart and a lot of tequila into this record. So I really hope that people like it because I'm really proud of it, and I can't wait to sing all these songs live, and I hope you guys want to sing them with me too."
