Just Because My Daughter Had Lice Doesn’t Mean He Shouldn’t Be Invited To the Party
Kennedy’s daughter had lice. She dealt with it and got cleared by her doctor, but she was made fun of at school for it. Last weekend she was supposed to go to a birthday party, but when they arrived the mother told her they weren’t welcome because she didn’t want the other children at the party exposed to lice. If your daughter had lice, how long would you expect to have to keep her out of social events like birthday parties?
Here’s Her Story
Jonathan: We have Kennedy on and Kennedy you have kind of a sad problem involving your kid in a birthday party. It wasn’t that nobody showed up for the birthday party. It’s that you showed up.
Kennedy: It was very sad, honestly, It was very frustrating. So my daughter is eight. I don’t know how this happened. You know, she goes to school every day. But I don’t know where or how my daughter picked up lice. Which happens, you know, it’s awful. And it was upsetting. And I took her home, and we did the whole thing. I got the special shampoo, you know, wash your hair. I used the wire brush.
Jonathan: Yeah, yeah, yeah. The whole thing.
Kennedy: And she was crying the whole time. She was really upset. And, she was made fun of at school. It was just horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible. And she was just heartbroken and upset. But we finally got rid of the lice, and we brought her into the pediatrician. She said it was fine. Everything was fine. The lice was gone.
Ayla: Okay, great.
Kennedy: And she was supposed to go to a birthday party. A friend of hers had a birthday party recently. Since the lice was gone, I said, okay, this will be fine. We showed up and my daughter was very excited and I was perfectly happy to help. There are a bunch of little ones. And the mother of the birthday girl came up to me and said, thank you so much for the present. But to be honest with you, we’re going to have to ask you to leave because your daughter had lice and we just don’t want you to get it.
Jonathan: Oh, man. Okay. I’m sorry. I don’t even know what I would do if I were in your position, but I definitely wouldn’t have left the present there.
Ayla: So your daughter left over lice?
Jonathan: So what did you do?
Kennedy: Well, I was shocked. I was flabbergasted. And I said, you know, my daughter is here. She doesn’t have lice anymore. What do you want? You want me to go? Because this is going to be heartbreaking for her. So we essentially just left and I said, this is appalling. I told my daughter, I’m sorry, daddy has to go do something. We have to leave early. I’m so sorry. And she was very upset. I do not think I want to be around these parents again. I was appalled. My daughter doesn’t have this anymore. How could you take that out on an eight year old kid.
Jonathan: Could I ask you. How many days had it been since she had lice?
Ayla: Doesn’t matter. She has a doctor’s note.
Kennedy: I would guess about five days. And we had gone to the doctor, the school. We had the doctor’s note. I went to the school. The school said, Great, this is fine. You know, we had a doctor’s note, he looked and made sure I was trying to do my due diligence with my child.
Ayla: And I just want to know, I’m a young mom. My son is young. There are a lot of mean parents out there. You know what I mean? This seems really unfair.
Jonathan: Honestly, I can’t imagine this happening in my kids groups. They would just be happy that we showed up for the party.
