How Much It Costs To Park In Boston
Recently a user on the popular social media platform Reddit u/sara6800 asked for a little bit of sanity in the city of Boston. Pleading:
Here is the description: “With 24/7 Valet INDOOR PARKING SPACE in a Private Heated Garage located on Broad Street across from the Waterfront & Rose Kennedy Greenway. Close proximity to Financial District & Downtown offices – perfect for a professional, commuter, local resident or investor. Excellent opportunity to purchase a highly coveted spot in a flourishing neighborhood. $275 Monthly HOA fee plus Real Estate Taxes”
AN HOA FOR A PARKING SPACE!!! What for? To make sure the lines are always a crisp yellow? No oil hits the asphalt? For $82k I should be able to set up a small petting zoo in my Nissan Altima if I want. Did we learn nothing from George Costanza?
But, here’s the thing. That’s actually not that bad at all.
Here are some other spots that will cost you twice if not triple that price.
25 Savoy Parking Space $150,000
“GARAGE SOUTH END Tandem Parking. Spaces 50 & 51 available NOW at Rollins Square Condominiums vehicle entrance at 25 Savoy Street. Pedestrian entrance at 15 Waltham Street with elevator access to parking. Option for electric car charger see disclosures. Condo Fee $148. per month. Buyer must be South End resident.”
I mean at least there are no HOA fees, but that condo fee seems pretty suspect.
396 Beacon Street, Parking Space D $275,000
“Single parking space available for sale on waterside Beacon between Fairfield Street and Gloucester Street. There are no property taxes or fees associated with the space.”
This one is especially galling because it seems like it’s not even in a covered garage.
Those of us who are from out of town are always baffled by how casual Bostonians are about how expensive things are here. But at a certain point when the place you park your car costs more than the car itself you aren’t sophisticated, you’ve just become numb to being ripped off.
