These 6 Museums Are Free For Boston Students And Families
I feel so fortunate that my parents introduced me to art and museums at a young age. Of course, at the time I didn’t appreciate it. But I certainly do now. Art, history and learning are crucial to a young person’s development. The Boston Globe reports that beginning in February 2024, ALL Boston Public School students and their families can visit participating museums and exhibitions in the city. Check out these 6 museums that are free for Boston students and their families, starting in February.
This is groundbreaking. And much needed, not only for the families, but for the future of the museums. Get kids interested early, and they’ll keep coming back. Below you will see the places offering free admission for BPS kids, with links. And there are discounts at some, for everyone!
The good news was delivered last week when Mayor Wu gave her State of the City speech. She shared a story of how her mom struggled when the kids were young, financially and with the English language. She wanted to give her kids the experience of our wonderful museums.
Participating Museums, Parks and Exhibitions
Starting in February, Boston Public School students and up to 3 family members will have have access to FREE admission to the following places:
- Museum of Fine Arts
- Boston Children’s Museum
- New England Aquarium
- Franklin Park Zoo
- Museum of Science
- Institute of Contemporary Art
All of these beloved Boston treasures already have discounted tickets, and often FREE passes for college students and corporate groups, according to The Globe story. You might also know that Boston Public School students and anyone 18 and under gets in free at The Institute of Contemporary Art. Free admission is offered every Thursday from 5-9pm for everyone. Plus, if you are with kids 12 and under, 2 adults per family can get in free on the last Saturday of each month.
Over at the Boston Children’s Museum, they have $11 half-price tickets for anyone carrying a library card. But some of these places carry a price tag that’s tough for some families to meet. Did you know it now costs adults $34 and kids $25 to get into the New England Aquarium? ($32 for college students and seniors). Starting in February it will be free on the 1st and 2nd Sundays every month, for every Boston Public School student and up to 3 family members. That’s a win!
Starting this February, on the first and second Sundays of each month, every Boston Public School student and up to three family members will get FREE admission to the Children’s Museum, the Franklin Park Zoo, the ICA, the MFA, the Museum of Science, and the New England Aquarium.
