Finally A Glimmer Of Hope For Red Sox Fans: Theo Epstein Is Back At Fenway
It’s funny how the universe works and how a day can be turned around with two words. Just this morning on my commute to work, I was listening to a news report that mentioned today is Truck Day for the Red Sox. In years past, this day was kind of a big deal to me, as a Sox fan. But, lately I’ve been feeling hopeless about our formerly beloved team. Then I log into my computer at work and there it is… Finally a glimmer of hope for Red Sox fans: Theo Epstein is back at Fenway, baby!
Those 2 words: Theo Epstein sent my endorphins racing. Suddenly, I was on a Sox high. And trust me, that’s not something I’ve experienced since 2021 when they made the playoffs. So what exactly is happening over at the old ball park?
Theo’s New Role
According to the sports business journal, Sportico, Fenway Sports Group announced this morning that Epstein is indeed returning to the organization. For those who don’t remember or were too young, Theo was the GM of the Sox, and he helped to bring a World Series Championship to the team after an 86 year draught. 86 years! It’s true, he was a very big part in putting an end to “the curse of the Bambino.” So, the adrenaline rush for those of us who witnessed it is real. Great PR move for the team who hasn’t been able to giveaway seats (gross exaggeration).
This time Mr. Epstein returns in a new role. He’ll be part owner and advisor to the organization. Can you hear my heart beating from where you are? In Theo we trust was a mantra around Boston for quite a few years. He was general manager of the team from 2003-2011. And in that time, the Red Sox won 2 World Series championships (2004 and 2007 and made the postseason 6 times. Not to mention, under the Epstein leadership, the team averaged more than 93 wins per year!
So yeah, there’s finally a glimmer of hope for us Red Sox fans, Theo Epstein is back at Fenway. He’s a smart, proven winner and moreover, he’s now invested in the club. This is a win for an organization who’ve lost a lot of fans as of late. And a win for us. We’ll take the W, thank you.
Having Theo Epstein back in Boston - involved in any form with the FSG/Red Sox - is a great thing! @wbz https://t.co/Zdcew49Thy
