Tim McGraw Picks Which Song He’d Use To Audition For ‘American Idol’
Tim McGraw has had 47 #1's but what song would he sing for a talent show if he had to? The answer might surprise you because he's had SO many great songs. Tim will bring his "Standing Room Only" tour to Boston on May 10th!
Tim McGraw has had 47 #1 songs, but what song would he audition with if he were to try out for a talent show like American Idol or The Voice?
On ‘Country Mornings With Jonathan and Ayla’ we asked Tim that very question. Ayla Brown posed a hypothetical scenario. “Tim you’ve had 47 number one hits. I want to play a hypothetical game with you for a second. If you were to try out for a talent show, say, American Idol, The Voice, you name it. Of all the 47 hit songs, what would be your audition song?”
Tim paused for a second and then joked that he wouldn’t get through if he were to try out for a show. Then after Jonathan and Ayla said that that wouldn’t be humanly possible because he’s Tim Freaking McGraw, he said, “ I would probably do it if they had never heard the song before, and I was doing something to try to impress them. I’d probably do, “Live Like You Were Dying.”
So there you have it. If Tim McGraw were to audition for a talent competition he would sing his iconic 2004 #1 song, “Live Like You Were Dying.”
The First Time Tim McGraw Heard “Live Like You Were Dying”
Tim McGraw did not write “Live Like You Were Dying,” but he remembers hearing it for the first time. It was actually a song written by Tim Nichols and Craig Wiseman. But Tim recalls listening to the demo and being floored by it. Tim had been going through a lot with his dad, former MLB pitcher, Tug McGraw, at the time, and knew he was going to cut the song the second he heard it.
Tim, speaking from everyone who loves country music, we are so glad that you decided to record it! And if you ever do try out for a talent competition, we would love to hear you audition with that song. There wouldn’t be a dry eye in the room.
