MSPCA Looking for Homes for 30 Cats Rescued from Norfolk County Home
The MSPCA-Angell recently saved 30 cats from horrible conditions at a Norfolk County home. The cats were found living without any food, water, or clean areas to use the bathroom.
After checking the cats, vets found many were seriously underweight. Some had breathing problems that needed immediate treatment. The MSPCA thinks it will cost around $5,000 to get all the cats healthy again.
“These cats are pretty thin, so they’re on refeeding plans to get them to a healthier weight,” Vice President of the MSPCA-Angell Animal Protection Division Mike Keiley told WCVB.
“Some also need treatment for upper respiratory infections, which is common when there’s a large number of cats in one home.”
The cats will be split up between four shelters in Massachusetts – located in Boston, Methuen, Salem, and Centerville. If you want to visit, Nevins Farm is open six days a week from noon to 4:30 p.m. The Northeast Animal Shelter is open every day from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This kind of rescue isn’t new for the Massachusetts organization. They often help pets stuck in homes where people collect too many animals.
Veterinarians say keeping lots of animals in tight, dirty spaces is terrible for their health. Without proper care, the animals usually get sick quickly.

These rescues put a big strain on the shelter’s budget. If you want to help, you can donate money for the cats’ medical care at mspca.org/manycats.
Each shelter has its own hours and rules for adoption. The staff makes sure to check out potential adopters to find good homes for the cats.
