Massachusetts Tops WalletHub’s Family-Friendly State Rankings for Fourth Year
For the fourth year in a row, Massachusetts grabbed the top spot as the best state for families, earning a strong 68.88 out of 100 in WalletHub’s 2025 study.
Moving up from last year’s 66.97 score, the state beat out others across five key areas: family activities, safety measures, education quality, affordability, and social-economic factors.
“In light of the expensive nature of being a parent and the responsibility it entails, it’s important to live in a city that is affordable while still providing quality health care, education, safety and opportunities for enrichment,” said WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo to Daily Voice.
Massachusetts stands out most in education, child care, and living expenses. The state offers complete health coverage for children and has the nation’s lowest infant death rates.
With the country’s best public schools and strongest job market, Massachusetts leads the way. The state also ranks tenth for its low poverty numbers.
Other New England states weren’t far behind. New Hampshire landed in fifth place, Maine took ninth, while Connecticut made it into the top ten.
The research pulled data from reliable government sources – Census numbers, school stats, and health department data told the story.
These results matter since raising kids to 18 now costs over $300,000, based on U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates.
Even with some of the highest daycare costs in America, Massachusetts still comes out on top with the best drinking water quality nationwide.
