Vandals Target Over 50 Properties in Falmouth During Early Morning Spree
Vandals struck several Cape Cod neighborhoods early on Monday, Jan. 20, leaving behind damage ranging from destroyed mailboxes to broken light fixtures.
Falmouth police told NBC10 Boston that a Falmouth Department of Public Works employee first observed property damage along Crooked Meadow Road before 2:30 a.m. Police investigators later discovered that vandals had targeted more than 50 properties along Blacksmith Shop Road, Cottontail Circle, Crooked Meadow Road, Happy Hollow Road, Pinecrest Beach Drive, Sandpoint Shores Drive, and Shagbark Drive.
Loralynn Teixeira was one of several residents who awoke Monday morning to police officers at her door notifying her about the vandalism. Police found her mailbox on the ground, covered with ice and leaves.
“I don’t know what kids, or anybody really, get out of something like that. What are you feeling, like this is exciting? I don’t get it. Nothing better to do,” Teixeira explained in an interview with CBS News Boston WBZ-TV. “It could have been worse. Mailboxes are better than homes and cars, but still.”
Snowfall from a winter storm during the vandalism spree allowed officers to track the suspects’ movements through footprints. Charges are expected, although Falmouth police have not identified any names or said how many individuals are involved in the incident.
Residents who may have home surveillance video of the suspects are asked to contact Officer Michael Kotfila at 774-255-4527, ext. 4659, or michael.kotfila@falmouthpolicema.gov.
