Great Scott and O'Briens Pub will occupy a new mixed-use structure at the pub's corner in Allston. The design will include Great Scott's "modern take on iconic green fabric awning," according to new renderings obtained by Boston.com.
The revitalized music venue's developers submitted plans to the Boston Planning and Development Agency for review during the week of Jan. 27. Those recently filed plans reveal the venue's proposed appearance as a mixed-use building containing 139 residential units.
Great Scott, which opened its doors in 1976 at 1222 Commonwealth Ave., has attracted up-and-coming acts such as Charli XCX, MGMT, and Jack Harlow before these performers made it big. Great Scott closed during the COVID-19 pandemic and was not reopened.
The revitalized Great Scott will accommodate 300 people, and O'Brien's Pub will hold 75. The 17,780-square-foot building containing the two venues will be nine stories tall, as detailed in a 225-page plan submitted to the BPDA. A relocated entrance for O'Brien's will be on Cambridge Street, and two retail spaces will face Harvard Avenue, according to the plan designs.
Allston residents who wish to comment on the proposed project can attend two virtual Impact Advisory Group meetings scheduled on Monday, Feb. 10, and Monday, Feb. 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. An online public comment portal will remain open until Thursday, Feb. 27.
Construction will begin following approval of the plan and will take approximately 18 months to complete. Management with Great Scott and O'Brien's have not commented publicly about the new plans.
