A hotel management group behind the Aloft and Element properties in Boston's Seaport is proposing a new hotel construction adjacent to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

DGH Hotel Partners JV LLC has filed a letter of intent with Boston's planning department to construct a new 438-room hotel at 391 D Street. According to a statement by the hotel group, the land on which the new hotel and the two existing hotels sit is leased to DGH by the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority. The hotel is projected to occupy approximately 160,000 square feet of real estate.

The City of Boston greenlighted the hotel as a Planned Development Area from the city in 2016.

The Boston Business Journal noted that the proposed hotel would be the 13th largest hotel structure in Boston once completed.

According to the Boston Business Journal, DGH is interested in the area surrounding the convention center because it presents the potential to address a critical need for hotel accommodations, approximately 800 to 1,000 rooms, to support the convention center's activities. Adding a new hotel to the area is also essential to a long-term, multibillion-dollar expansion strategy focused on bolstering economic activity and job opportunities around the convention center.

In addition to the new hotel, DGH aims to enhance its existing Aloft and Element hotel properties by adding 20 more rooms.
