A new weeklong event for queer foodies is coming to Boston April 28 through May 4. The inaugural Big Queer Food Fest (BQFF) will bring bartenders, chefs, and restaurateurs from across the country to several Boston hospitality spaces for events that include cocktail competitions, discussions with cookbook authors, and plenty of food and beverages.
“What makes BQFF special is how it brings together every aspect of queer food culture — from acclaimed chefs to innovative wine and spirit makers, from established restaurants to emerging culinary voices,” David Lewis, co-founder of BQFF, said in a press release shared with Boston.com.
Below are several activity highlights during the weeklong celebration:
- Monday, April 28: BQFF opening party hosted by Tiffani Faison of Sweet Cheeks Q and Tenderoni's Pizza
- Tuesday, April 29: Big Queer Beer Meet-Up at Dorchester Brewing
- Wednesday, April 30: Chef's Dinner at Karen Akunowicz's Bar Volpe, complete with multiple courses, cocktail, and wine pairings; BQFF Cocktail Wars finals at Shore Leave
- Thursday, May 1: "Girl, PEAS! Why Queer Food Matters" discussion at High Street Place, featuring cookbook and food authors John Birdsall, Justin Burke, Erik Piepenburg, and Jon Kung; Big Queer Tea Party at the Boston Tea Party Museum
- Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4: A two-day Grand Tasting event will conclude BQFF at High and Federal streets, inside and outside of the High Street Place food hall
Tickets are on sale for the Grand Tasting event. Ticket prices begin at $95 for general admission and go as high as $475 for VIP tickets for Saturday and Sunday events. Children 2 years old or younger can enter for free. Tickets are $25 for ages 3 to 12. Ticket information for remaining events will be announced soon.
