Meet Three Years Gone from Boston
If you like your county a little on the edge, on the rocks, and with a splash of pop, you are going to appreciate this talented duo from south of the Boston border. Patrick Kearns and Matthew LaPierre have carved their own sound, and one that represents their influences, backgrounds and personalities. On their latest offering, “Happy Then,” it’s hard not to draw similarities to Hootie and the Blowfish. In it’s rock-anthemesque delivery there’s strength, particularly in the vocals and lead guitar. There’s power in the message, and the melody will make you want to join in. You take the lead, I’ll follow because this duo’s harmonies are on point.
You may already know lead singer, Patrick Kearns. He is actually the guy you see at Bruins games dressed up in a Viking costume, and affectionatley known “The Big Scary Man Guy.” Take the time to give these guys a listen, they are about as Boston you can get, and making some great music, right here at home.

Our featured song “Happy Then” is all about remembering the good times and getting you back to that place. Patrick Kearns wrote the lyrics and progression of the song. Then Matthew LaPierre wrote and sang all the lead guitar and vocal harmonies to put the song over the top!

- How did you get your name: Me (Patrick) and Matt played as an acoustic duo a few years ago and always asked what if? What if we made a full band project together? That was 3 years ago and here we are now as Three Years Gone.
- How did you come together and when? We met through mutual friends and started playing music in 2018.
- Band Members: Patrick Kearns – Singer/Songwriter/ Acoustic guitar. Matthew LaPierre – Lead Guitarist/backup vocals.
- Hometowns: Patrick Kearns is from East Bridgewater and Matthew LaPierre is from Quincy Massachusetts.
- How would you describe your sound: We are a country rock band with pop elements. We made this album to have a little something for everyone. We’re big on vocal harmonies and whether you hear the music or our voices you know it’s Three Years Gone.
- Biggest influences: Pats biggest influences are Tom Petty, Chris Cornell and Dave Grohl. Matt’s are Dimebag Darrell, Jake Cinnanger and John Mayer.
- Current favorites on Country 1025: Patrick Kearns – Jason Aldean – My kinda Party got me into country music. Anytime I hear that opening riff I can’t help but crank up the volume and get it going.
- Day jobs: Patrick Kearns – Musician Matthew LaPierre – Session Musician
- Most proud moment: Every show we play is a proud moment. After the pandemic hit just being able to play live again is an amazing feeling.
- Craziest thing that ever happened in your music career: We have been lucky enough to get support and shout outs from Eli Young band, Florida Georgia Line and Chris Lane. When they reached out it let us know we’re on our way and to keep pushing forward.
- Fun facts: Patrick Kearns is actually also known as “The Big Scary Man Guy” He’s been going to Bruins games as a Viking for over a decade. Doing bruins recaps on 98.5 The Sportshub. He’s been featured on NBC, NESN, ESPN and more. Pat also runs a podcast called “Big Mouth Small Words.” Matthew LaPierre has played with the biggest names in the rock and metal scene including Oli Herbert, Marty Friedman, Nuno Bettencourt, Jeff Loomis and Alex Skolnick.
