Amanda was food shopping and tried to get around a man with a cart in the aisle. For some reason he was pulling his cart from alongside instead of pushing it from behind. Amanda is tired of men and their manspreading ways so she had words with him. He made her feel like she was crazy, so when she got home she vented to her boyfriend. Her boyfriend responded that he does the same thing when shopping and he doesn’t get her anger. Should Amanda be so upset about this? Is manspreading really that big of a problem?
Jonathan: And today we have Amanda on with us. Hey, Amanda.
Amanda: Hey.
Jonathan: You, as I often do, got into a fight at the grocery store. What happened, Amanda?
Amanda: You know how things are with the grocery store. It’s a little packed. The holidays are coming up. Everyone’s there, and I’m shopping for my groceries. And there’s this guy in the aisle, and he’s standing next to his cart and he’s pulling the cart, not pushing the cart behind. He’s standing and pulling the cart.
Ayla: So like on chain. All right.
Jonathan: No, he’s at the front of the cart pulling it right.
Amanda: Yes, pulling the cart.
Jonathan: Okay.
Amanda: I just couldn’t believe it. He was manspreading himself throughout the entire grocery aisle. And I can understand maybe being in the wrong lane sometimes. You know how sometimes people do that. But this was just blatantly disrespectful, and I don’t know what came over me. I walked by and I just was like, why are you doing this?
Ayla: Whoa.
Amanda: Yeah, yeah, I came in a little hot. I came in a little hot, but I just couldn’t. I don’t know.
Ayla: Why did it bother you so much? He was just dragging the cart. Can you explain? What is it?
Jonathan: I don’t know.
Ayla: I know my mom’s going to ask me later. So what does it mean? It’s just a man taking up too much space?
Amanda: Yes, they just sprawl and spread and they’re just everywhere all the time.
Jonathan: Yeah, it’s typical. Like if you’re sitting on the T or something and a guy sat down next to you, he’d spread his legs.
Ayla: Spread his legs, got it.
Jonathan: To take up as much space as possible.
Amanda: Like his legs wide open. Whereas like as women, you know, cross your legs, you know?
Ayla: I’ve never seen any man do this.
Jonathan: You’ve never seen this? Oh, my God. I see it all the time. Your husband is absolutely a manspreader.
Ayla: He’s very respectful when it comes to manspreading.
Jonathan: So you yelled at the guy. How did he react? What did he do?
Amanda: I think I caught him off guard, but this is just our job. And I’m saying you’ve got to have a little pride. I’m sure he said something under his breath at me, but I was just aggravated. And the best part is, I go home and I’m telling my boyfriend I’m just raging. And he goes, well, I do that.
Ayla: I’ve never met anyone who does this at the grocery store.
Jonathan: So you’ve never met anybody or seen this?
Ayla: Anyone? No.
Jonathan: Where do you shop? Because I need to go.
Ayla: In multiple places around me. Whatever has the best specials of the week, I’m going there. Maybe I need to just try different places just to witness it. I don’t think it would make me mad.
Amanda: I was going to say. Or maybe not try other places if you have never seen it.
Ayla: Good point. There are other things that make me mad at a grocery store, but that I don’t think would.
Jonathan: All right, so your boyfriend was like, I do it all the time. I’m assuming you broke up with him.
Amanda: You know, we’re going to take a couple of days to think about it.
Jonathan: Maybe go to some counseling, some therapy.
Amanda: I’m going to teach him the proper way to shop.
Jonathan: Good, honestly, because he’s an animal. He should not be marrying a feral creature from the woods that doesn’t know how to behave himself at a grocery store.
Ayla: Oh, my God.
Amanda: All right.
