I Stole My Kid’s Piggy Bank To Pay Off A Sports Gambling Debt
Ray made a bet on a March Madness game with a buddy and lost. Because Ray has a history of not paying up, his friend made him get cash to pay him immediately. Ray didn’t have any cash, so he took the money out of his child’s piggy bank. He intended to put it back, but his kid saw him take it and is now upset
Jonathan: Today for panic button we have Ray.
Ray: Hey, what’s going on, everybody? How are you?
Jonathan: Good, good. Yeah, I’m a big sports fan, Ray. I can’t say that I’m as big of a fan as you, because I’ve never resorted to what you did to pay off a debt. So what happened Ray?
Ray: All right, so, you know, March Madness is just starting out. So my friends and I were watching March Madness, and I made a bet with them.
Ayla: Girls or the boys. Just wondering.
Ray: You know, I’m a big Caitlin Clark fan, but we were watching the boys.
Ayla: Okay, okay. That’s fine. Cool.
Ray: So, yeah, the women have been playing incredible. But I made a bet, right. And I lost a bet. And my friend was like, all right, it’s time for you to pay up. And I said, okay, I will I’ll Venmo you later. And he’s like, no, I don’t trust you. I want cash now. Okay. He was getting really aggressive with me and I’m like, I thought we were friends.
Ayla: Yeah, but what’s up with the aggression.
Jonathan: Why couldn’t you? Have you welched on a bet before?
Ray: I mean, there’s been times where I didn’t pay immediately right away. Yeah.
Jonathan: Yeah. Okay. Well and I guess maybe if he needed the money. Right. Because Venmo I think you can’t you don’t get immediately.
Ayla: No you can, but I think his friend was just trying to prove a point. Hey you haven’t paid me up in the past so I want cash now.
Jonathan: Still a jerk move. All right. So what did you do?
So What Did Ray Do? He Stole His Son’s Piggy Bank
Ray: Exactly what it was. Yeah, he just kept going. I need cash now. You need to pay up now. And I’m like, we’re watching more games. Yeah, just go get the cash. I’m like, I don’t have cash on me.
Jonathan: Yeah. What kind of person has cash?
Ray: My son has a piggy bank upstairs. He was like, all right, go get that dude.
Ayla: No.
Jonathan: Okay.
Ray: So I went up to my son’s room and, you know, I explained to him.
Ayla: Ray, how old is your son? I just need to wait.
Ray: He’s eight years old.
Ayla: Cutie. Okay.
Ray: And I was explaining to him, you know, I lost a bet. I need to pay this man downstairs. And he was upset about it, and he didn’t even understand it. Even though I told him I’m going to put the money back in the bank. And I did put the money back. But to him, it’s not the same money.
Jonathan: Right. That was money from his grandma.
Ayla: And allowance
Jonathan: Money he found while walking home from school one day.
Ayla: His Lucky Penny was in there. Oh, my gosh, Ray, you took his sentimental money.
Ray: I mean, I get it, but I put the money back in and it was the same money, you know?
Ayla: Right.
Ray: But to him, he’s like, no, you’ve got to go find that quarter. I found it out at the bench.
Jonathan: Okay. So do you regret doing this?
Ray: I regret doing it. I regret it I guess.
Jonathan: What else were you supposed to do?
Ray: But I didn’t want to fight this guy.
Jonathan: Yeah. No, I can tell you honestly, I would have done the same thing.
Ayla: I wouldn’t have. I would have gone to the ATM. I would never have taken any
Jonathan: I wouldn’t trust him to go to the ATM.
Ayla: Well, then they can go get a beer together and just go to the ATM or something, you know what I mean?
Jonathan: Do you feel good about taking your kid’s piggy bank money.
Ayla: He doesn’t care.
Ray: No, we haven’t talked much about it. I gave him the money back.
Jonathan: All right. So that’s where his problem is. His kid is upset because he used his piggy bank money to pay off a debt. Was he right to do that? Or should he have just got into a fist fight with the guy or driven to an ATM or found some other solution. Ray, thank you so much.
Ray: Thank you.
