Stephanie worked for a few months at her job and didn’t like it so she left. Now she’s looking for a new job, but she doesn’t want to use her old job as a reference because she felt like someone should thank her for her time while she was there.

Jonathan: And today we got Stephanie. Hey, Stephanie.

Stephanie: Hey, good morning.

Jonathan: Good morning. And thank you so much for being here with us, Stephanie. What are you calling about?

Ayla: What’s your problem?

Stephanie: So, I’m younger. I had my first full time corporate office job and I really didn’t like it. I can’t really live my best life when I’m in an office five days a week.

Jonathan: Yeah.

Ayla: Your best life. I love that. What is your best life?

Jonathan: Does your best life involve not having money?

Stephanie: No, I obviously want money. But, I mean, how can I work five days a week in an office? That’s so much of your time. And then you come home and you have to eat dinner and there’s no time for anything else.

Ayla: No time for social stuff, hanging out with friends?

Stephanie: That’s so important to a well-rounded life, I believe, so I left for a better opportunity.

Ayla: What was the opportunity?

Stephanie: Well, the opportunity is to find something better. I haven’t actually found anything yet, but I’m actively looking.

Ayla: Okay, that’s good. So you quit.

Jonathan: I’m letting you handle this.

Stephanie: I don’t really like to use that word.

Ayla: Jonathan is quite angry. He is fuming from this. I’m not sure why you’re so angry. She wants a well balanced life, a work life balance, which is very important to her.

Ayla: Steph, How old are you?

Stephanie: I’m 23.

Ayla: 23. She just had her first corporate job. She’s right out of college. She hated it. She thinks this is not for me. So she did not quit. She doesn’t want to use that term. Instead, she left for other opportunities.

Stephanie: Which it’s understandable.

Ayla: So what’s the problem?

Stephanie: I’m just really annoyed because I don’t think it’s really fair to me that I work that hard and that much. I showed up every day, five days a week. I never called out and I’m annoyed because I need a reference for a new job, but I’m not going to use them because when I left, they didn’t even thank me or anything for my service.

Ayla: Okay, Steph, you cannot say service. I mean, you can if you want, but that means something so different like you did you serve in the military? Was that the first corporate job? No.

Stephanie: No. I served as an employee. I was there. I was there every day. I don’t know. I don’t understand. People call out. I don’t call out. I went there. I didn’t even get a card. Nothing happened.

Jonathan: Now I’ve literally gone blind with rage.

Ayla: Okay, well, I didn’t. I just have one question. So you’re mad and you don’t want to go to the H.R. office because they didn’t thank you on the way out. Am I correct?

Jonathan: So she’s punishing each H.R. Like they’re like, Hey, we really want to give her a recommendation.

Stephanie: They should. I worked. I showed up.

Ayla: This is beautiful.

Jonathan: You showed up? For how long were you working?

Stephanie: It was a couple of months, but I went there. I mean, there’s people I hear about, people calling out all the time. I didn’t do that. Like I showed up.

Ayla: She did.

Stephanie: She showed up every day. Well, that’s important.

Ayla: It’s so important. Stephanie, you might be our favorite caller that we have ever had on our station. I am so in love with you.

Jonathan: With your work ethic.

Ayla: Your work ethic is undeniable.
