Mother and children glazing cookies for Halloween celebration

Olivia’s babysitter is taking advantage of husband’s generosity. Should she make him stop giving the babysitter tips and food on top of what they already pay her? Olivia thought that her babysitter was just good at arriving a little early. Then one day she found out that her husband has been giving the babysitter a little extra tip for showing up a little early. She thought it was odd, but let it go. But last weekend, he was ordering dinner for the family and ordered an extra meal, explaining that he wanted to have leftovers in case the babysitter wanted dinner. Now Olivia is worried that this babysitter is taking advantage of her husband’s generous nature and she wants him to stop giving her all these extras.

Ayla Brown: Good morning, Olivia. What’s going on with a babysitter, food, your husband, all of it? Give me the details.

Olivia: My husband keeps feeding our baby sitter. She always keeps showing up 15 minutes early, and I didn’t really think it was a big deal. I thought she just wanted to be on time. So she gets there early to make sure she’s on time. But I found out recently that my husband actually tips her an extra $20 for showing up early.

Ayla Brown: And you didn’t know?

Olivia: I wasn’t aware of that before. Quick little cash under the table just for showing up early.

Ayla Brown: That’s nice. For the babysitter.

Olivia: Yeah. My husband is very generous. He’s really a tipper in general. But, you know, I also found out recently that when my husband orders food for us, for the family, he actually also orders extra to give to the babysitter. And it’s like good stuff, you know, like chicken parm, like good things, you know?

Ayla Brown: Wow. I like that. I want to Be your babysitter. Can you feed me chicken parm?

Olivia: My husband would probably do that.

Ayla Brown: He probably would. So let me understand. You have a problem with your husband, I guess being generous with the money, with the tips, but also buying the babysitter food. Am I understanding that correctly?

Olivia: Yes, exactly. I just feel like the babysitter is really taking advantage of my husband’s generosity.

Ayla Brown: I mean, he does sound very generous, so why not have a conversation with him and say, you know, honey, it’s time to stop with the food, stop feeding the babysitter. She’s not allowed to eat when she works here.

Olivia: Yeah, I might have to talk to him about that, because now we’re spending a lot of extra money on the babysitter.
