After conducting a completley unscientific, absolutely unofficial poll on Facebook and Twitter, the results are in! We are celebrating the great American pastime of letting someone else do the cooking, and serving it fast, in a bag, to take on the road or bring home. Occassionaly we even eat in. Happy National Fast Food Day.

I summoned your opinions on social media, asking the question, “What’s your favorite fast food chain?” And Country 1025 listeners have spoken. The freckled little girl with the red braids grilled the competition. Yes, people love their McDonald’s fries, but the “chain” reaction to that question. put Wendy’s ahead of the line. So, let’s sort out your favorites, ranking 1-5.

Fun fact, the square hamburgers at Wendy’s are symbolic. According to Eat This Not That, when owner Dave Thomas founded Wendy’s, back in 1969, “he wanted to create a place that could serve quick meals without cutting any corners.” Smart. Fun fact about McDonalds, according to Reader’s Digest, the military inspired the first McDonald’s drive-through. “McDonald’s first drive-through opened in 1975 in Sierra Vista, Arizona. What inspired the then-revolutionary concept? The restaurant was located near a military base, and soldiers were not allowed to leave their cars while wearing fatigues.”

  • 1. Wendy's

Is it the trustworthy sweet little girl in the logo that brings us back. Is it the square hamburgers that stick outside the bun? Perhaps it’s the creative offerings, outside the box, like chili and a baked potato. Healthier options are always nice. Whatever the reason, Wendy’s was, by far, the most popular fast food chain, according to Country 1025 listeners.

This is New England. We run on Dunkin’. You knew it had to rank high. Did you know the first Dunkin opened in Quincy Ma in 1950? Today, the popular chain sells over 60 cups of coffee per second!

  • 4. Arby's

This one surprised me because the only Arby’s in Massachusetts are in Western, Mass. There are a couple of New Hampshire locations too. But if you’ve ever traveled the Mass pike to CT, and New York, you’ve likely stopped to get Arby’s. It’s the travelers choice!

  • Chick-Fil-A

Over the past few years, more and more Chick-Fil-As have opened in the Boston area, and beyond. Those waffle potato fries are addictive! And the chicken nuggets are undeniably good.
